The Role
Discovery Education is searching for an experienced and skilled operator to grow its industry leading Professional Learning (PL) business and implement a more recurring and scalable business model. The Vice President of Professional Learning is responsible for leading all aspects of Discovery Education’s Professional Learning business which is focused on delivering best-in-class professional learning to educators with the goal of building expertise in utilizing Discovery Education’s products to transform teaching and learning. The delivery of professional learning must drive increased usage of Discovery Education’s products and increased revenue from both new and existing accounts. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing/implementing and/or operating a blended in person and virtual/online professional learning model. The role includes overall management of the Professional Learning P&L including, but not limited to: account management, delivery, related personnel (both full-time and contingent labor), scalability, and overall growth strategy.
Responsibilities
Strategy
• Work closely with President of K12 Education, SVP of Teaching & Learning, SVP of Educational Partnerships and Chief Product Officer to profitably grow Discovery Education’s business
• Implement strategies to operationally improve professional learning, ensuring profitability and alignment of Discovery Education goals and objectives
• Implement strategies to ensure Discovery Education’s Professional Learning partners maintain ongoing relationship, are introduced to Discovery Education’s platform of digital services and continue to grow their overall business relationship
• Improve staffing and cost structure to optimize profitability of Professional Learning organization
• Ensure Discovery Education’s ability to scale as the business grows by incorporating technology strategically across all areas related to professional learning
• Execute online/virtual strategy to move Discovery Education to a blended Professional Learning offering
Management Responsibilities
• Lead team of approximately 20-30 full-time employees and manage a contingent workforce of over 100 part-time professionals to continuously improve quality, efficiency and effectiveness
• Define and establish system for tracking operational metrics, including account growth, use of current services and adoption of additional Discovery Education digital services
• Manage all members within professional learning teams to consistently meet or exceed business targets
Professional Learning
• Own all aspects of K12 Professional Learning
• Evaluate and implement best-in-class strategies for professional learning, including on-site and online professional learning
• Expand revenue in accounts through expansion of current professional learning and addition of Discovery Education’s suite of digital services
• Influence lifetime value of partners through higher product adoption, improved partner satisfaction and by increasing overall account health
• Develop and implement tiered levels of paid professional learning and account management services
• Identify ways in which Discovery Education can further support and leverage the teacher community to drive business growth through greater advocacy and credibility
• Implement systematic and comprehensive pricing strategy for professional learning
• Implement KPI’s and develop a compensation plan to optimize efficacy
• Partner with sales, marketing and product teams to ensure strategy and resource alignment that drives growth of Discovery Education
Fiscal & Travel Responsibility
• Manage budgets for all areas of responsibility ensuring Discovery Education delivers on its annual profitability targets, including continuously targeting areas for cost savings and greater efficiency
• Travel as required
General
• Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills

• Demonstrate deep understanding of value drivers in recurring revenue business models
• Maintain clear and complete account files within Salesforce to ensure communication flow and ease of information sharing
• Maintain thorough understanding of industry trends, current events, and emerging technologies – maintain high level of relevant expertise
• Identify and apply industry best practices
Requirements
• 10 years’ experience in operationally leading a comparable business segment with direct P&L responsibility
• Demonstrated ability to increase revenue and overall profitability by strategically enhancing the partner experience and optimizing the operational structure
• MBA or other advanced degree preferred
• Attention to detail and organizational skills essential
• Proven track record of effective strategic thinking and ability to prioritize/communicate diverse workload
• Ability to work independently as well as with team members
• Strong sense of personal initiative and urgency to accomplish tasks
• Must have the legal right to work in the United States
