Overview
The Transmission Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of Playout Operators in the operation and the continued growth and development of Discovery Networks Europe’s playout facility. This covers all linear broadcasting of 24 channels in 5 languages and also our Digital portfolio of live events across multiple European markets.
The Playout Supervisor is the primary contact for all transmission matters and is responsible for the identification and resolution of technical or operational issues.
Responsibilities
Number Direct Reports: 4-8
Hours of work: 40 hours per week. These are a mix of shifts and regular office hours.
• Responsible for leading, motivating and managing a team of operators
• Working with the MCR, Distribution and Bookings teams ensure all technical and resourcing requirements are identified and implemented
• Liaising with internal and external stakeholders
• Will be the first level escalation for operational issues
• Creation of daily Player Events List to provide a clear snapshot of digital playout requirements for the ensuing 24hrs.
• Responsible for ensuring clean, accurate, end-to-end output across 112 digital Live Event channels to Eurosport Player, Discovery & affiliate networks.
• Escalation & reporting of a wide range of technical and operational issues.
• Identifying potential problems & chasing with the relevant teams to ensure they are rectified before TX.
• Guaranteeing correct commentary for up to 32 language markets & liaising with DMRs in local territories to resolve issues.
• Provide technical support to a team of Live Operators on all necessary systems for live event fulfillment; InFlow LEM, AMPP Playout, Mosaic HLS.
• Responsible for tracking holiday and cover of your team
• Ensure that established SOPs and departmental policies are followed consistently. Perform routine analysis of the knowledge base and tools to identify & implement operational improvements .
• Daily and weekly reporting of all issues
• Attending meetings and representing the department as needed, taking and distributing notes and actions.
• Responsible for exceptions planning and making decisions regarding late changes if necessary.
• Assist the technical lead with Projects and Testing (eg. Olympics/GDO embeddable)
• Such other duties as the management may from time to time reasonably require
• Experience of acting as “Incident Manager” when required to liaise with various depts and Senior Management in the event of major technical issues.
Qualifications
• Experience within a multi-channel, fully automated transmission environment
• Experience working with multiple Automation systems, preferably with Grass Valley ITX and Aveco Automation.
• Extensive experience working in a complex live broadcast environment is essential.
• Technically motivated, quick learner when it comes to various IT applications, computer literate.
• Detailed understanding of BNCS routing applications.
• Working knowledge and operations of rostering and bookings software Mediapulse or similar.
• A thorough operational knowledge of transmission technologies
• Understanding of compliance regulations including OFCOM, CSA, BLM, NMA and FICORA.
• Experience working in small/medium team and managing them accordingly - rostering, annual leave, performance reviews, disciplinary reviews
• Performance Management including determining goals for Operators, regular coaching & reviews, and progressive performance and conduct discipline when required.
• Previous experience of leading and building teams
• Understand end-to-end video delivery and content availability
• On call overnight when their team is on night shifts
• Experience working in mid/large team and managing them accordingly - rostering, annual leave, performance reviews, disciplinary reviews
