As the Principal of Product, Search you will lead the team that powers the delivery of search results for Discovery’s Direct to Consumer products. In this position, you will own the roadmap and lead the engineering execution defining and operationalizing our relevance algorithm. You’ll apply your deep knowledge of modern search user interfaces, define and implement the approach for monitoring the quality of delivered results and develop strategies for using AI and machine learning to create an optimal balance between the needs of customers and key stakeholders. You’ll thrive making decisions for products with brands that customers know and love, based on user data and research. Your passion will be to discover and develop products and features that deliver both meaningful benefits to our customers and strategic success for our company.
Day-to-day, you’ll succeed by learning what solutions are simultaneously usable, valuable, and feasible, through product discovery, design thinking & data driven experiments. You’ll connect regularly with customers to develop a deep understanding of our audience and industry. You’ll leverage user insights from our in-depth analytics to develop, test, and iterate product roadmaps that meaningfully improve our customer search experience. You’ll lead and motivate a dedicated, cross-functional agile team by communicating vision, prioritizing opportunities that deliver value to our customers and scale the product. You will collaborate regularly and clearly with partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities
1. Define the vision and execute the roadmap for Discovery’s enterprise search platform, including both customer facing features and back-end capabilities.
2. Establish shared vision across the company and digital product teams by building data-driven consensus on search priorities leading to product execution.
3. Collaborate with engineering and analytics teams on evaluation quality metrics and criteria for determining the success and regression of new features.
4. Design and improve testing methodologies for search relevancy evaluations, including data set selection and testing strategies.
5. Discover how search can best serve customers based on deep understanding of the user, data and market analysis. Drive rapid experimentation to understand how to best maximize value.
6. Lead the full product lifecycle — from ideation, design, definition, through to delivery —collaborating with teams across the organization by developing a product vision, establishing goals and aligning cross functional teams to the mission.
7. Manage, coach and continuously inspire a team of PMs, fostering a culture PMs who are consumer obsessed, data driven, seek to continuously learn and operate with a bias to action.
8. Communicate a clear set of consumer and partner needs at all times to drive key decisions and prioritization.
Requirements
* 5 years of product management in a large scale consumer web/ mobile app setting
* 5 years of experience in search, discovery and/or personalization using machine learning or similar approaches.
* 5 years experience with product discovery, design thinking and lean product
* Exceptional analytical and communication skills
* Experience incorporating a variety of research and testing methods including qualitative user research, A/B testing, machine learning model evaluation etc. to drive product decisions.
* Partner with PMs and Engineering across relevant teams to launch scoped feature(s) against agreed-upon customer needs and timelines
* Be the internal expert on search; stay current with competitors’ products; conduct user research with competitive products to gain customer-level insights on the strengths and weaknesses of the competition
* Demonstrated ability to work with engineering teams to discuss technical concepts, make tradeoffs to remove roadblocks, and evaluate new ideas.
