Our Team: Media Strategy and Analytics
The Media Strategy & Analytics team (MSA) acts as an internal media team that handles the strategy, execution, and reporting of all paid & owned media vehicles with the goal of driving viewership across TV, digital and direct-to-consumer products for all of Discovery, Inc’s 16 networks (Discovery, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, etc.) and direct-to-consumer products (MotorTrend, GOLFTV, Dplay, etc.).
Media Science is a growing discipline in the media team. The business encompasses both paid media for TV and direct-to-consumer business and owned assets, which have seen exponential growth in data collection and management. Join a data-driven team that is building out a Media Science discipline incorporating big data sets, automation and visualizations to drive media efficiencies and effectiveness.
The Role
The Media Science Data Engineer/Analyst is a critical role within the Media Strategy and Analytics (MSA) team. In this position, you can look forward to rolling up your sleeves and digging into our data to help develop and maintain data platforms and tools that everyone can rely on. This role will be responsible for contributing to an ecosystem that handles data ingress/egress - interfacing with various sources/destinations. The role will help to ingest, clean, validate and organize data in a way that makes the media planning process more automated and will allow insights to be drawn out more easily.
Under the supervision of the Media Science Director and in partnership with the Analysts, the Media Science Data Specialist will focus on the below areas:
Responsibilities
1. Data Automation
• Help expand our data automation capabilities
• Contribute to our home-grown automation tool set
• Utilize programming languages like Python, R, and shell scripts
2. Data Analysis
• Identify trends and opportunities for growth through analysis of complex data sets
• Analyze data to produce actionable insights for relevant decision-makers
• Utilize Hive, Presto, Redshift and traditional SQL
3. Data Visualization
• Assist in the creation of analytics dashboards
• Produce published data sources to serve as source-of-truth for other visualization creators
• Utilize Tableau, PowerBI, and other visualization tools
Requirements
* College degree within a quantitative discipline
* 3 years of work experience with data analysis or media research
* Experience with programming language (SQL, Python)
* Experience with statistical software (SAS, SPSS, STATA, R) is a plus
* Experience in Tableau Desktop Professional is a plus
* Comfortable working with large datasets
* Strong data entry and analysis skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office systems, specifically Excel
* Self-starter, highly motivated, positive demeanor, excellent communicator, and able to juggle multiple assignments simultaneously
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
