The Role
The Human Resources Coordinator will be a key member of the Human Resources team. This position will act as a point of contact for HR-related requests. The role requires the ability and willingness to complete daily responsibilities in a proactive and collaborative way, supporting our employees. This is a true generalist role and an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to develop their operational HR expertise. This position can be based out of Discovery Education's Silver Spring, MD or Charlotte, NC office.
Responsibilities
1. Serve as a resource for employees, providing information on HR processes and programs; manage the HR inbox and respond to employee inquiries, escalate inquiries as appropriate; may conduct employee information sessions on programs and policies as appropriate
2. Participate in employee relations activities related to employee engagement surveys, exit interviews, and targeted employee engagement initiatives
3. Maintain data in HRIS system ensuring the accuracy of information including; benefit enrollments, status changes, new hire information, and terminations. Serves as in-house expert on HRIS and ensures efficient utilization of system
4. Provide reporting and information tracking, such as monitoring and follow up on contingent workers and independent contractors and organizational planning and tracking
5. Coordinates and processes all onboarding related actions, to include new hire paperwork, e-Verify, and coordination with other departments; conducts new hire orientation
6. Processes payroll in accordance with guidelines and legal requirements; produces payroll-related documents and reports for management and provides GL required items for accounting department
7. Prepare and process employment changes and documentation for employees related to events such as, terminations, transfers, and promotions
8. Responds to external inquiries regarding employment, to include employment verifications and unemployment claims
9. Assist with recruiting functions as needed to include sourcing, screening and background checks
Requirements
* Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a business-related field
* A minimum of 3 years of Human Resources experience, or Masters degree in Human Resources or Business Administration
* Basic knowledge of HR/personnel practices and principles and applicable labor, pay, and benefits laws and regulations
* Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task, as well as commitment to meeting deadlines.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required
* HRIS experience a desired
* Payroll system familiarity with ADP Workforce Now is a plus
* Ability to handle a high level of confidentiality regarding employee information
* Must have the legal right to work in the US
