Our Team
Global Talent Management & Operations (GTMO) is the connective tissue between on-air and digital series on-camera Talent and the global businesses of Discovery Inc. GTMO’s mission is to effectively manage the Talent business strategy, prioritize activities outside of Production, align with Production, and optimize global operations.
As the Talent’s key relationship holder with Discovery Inc., GTMO strategically manages the relationships with the Talent, their representatives, production and internal clients. GTMO responsibilities include onboarding, coaching, advocating, prioritizing and leveraging the Talent to drive business value for ratings, revenue, relationships, renewals and brands.
The Role
The Director of Operations is a seasoned operational leader who will:
• ensure an engaged, market-smart, forward-thinking and global Operations strategy by collaborating with internal parties and the GTMO team
• develop, monitor, support and operationalize initiatives and best practices
• provide on-going guidance and mentorship in Operations across GTMO
• manage projects for cross-company and network events and Talent activitations
• take initiative with clients to understand their strategy and expectations to manage the impact on the GTMO team’s ability to deliver quality client service;
• interpret and report key data and dervive impactful recommedations and insights;
• Serve as central point of contact for questions about Talent payments;
• manage technology infrastructure;
• collaborate closely with the GTMO team to ensure business priority access to Talent, manage contractual compliance, troubleshoot Talent issues and leverage Talent and deals in order to support content, events and network and corporate business initiatives;
• manage an Operations Coordinator; and
• report to the VP of Strategy & Operations.
Responsibilities
Project Management
1. Take initiative with clients to understand their strategy and expectations to manage the impact on the GTMO team’s ability to deliver quality client service;
2. Manage projects with clear milestones and expectations, ensure quality delivery to meet deadlines, support GTMO team and clients in securing context of project and priority, and communicate proactive and continuous status of projects
3. Interpret and report key data and dervive impactful recommedations and insights, including project findings, results, updates and post mortems with and to clients and GTMO team;
4. Manage numerous projects in a dynamic environment ensuring and communicationg clear prioritization to GTMO team while recognizing and appreciating the additional projects that member of the GTMO team have outside of these central/ operational projects
5. Manage projects for cross-company and network events and Talent activitations, including Upfronts, Shark Week and year-end gifting, affiliate renewals, social media activations, marketing shoots, corporate events and initiatives
6. Partner with GO, US network social teams, and GTMO team to promote upcoming content, including show and original content on Talent’s social handles, and own regular report to GO executives on impact of Talent social posts
7. Manage the Discovery Influencer Program with US Ad Sales and GTMO team, including onboarding, tracking and reporting
Operations
1. Ensure an engaged, market-smart, forward-thinking and global Operations strategy by cultivating, building, informing, nurturing and strengthening internal relationships and knowledge sharing, and collabortating with the GTMO team and internal parties, e.g., Digital and Social Media teams across the US, International (DNI & Eurosport) and Corporate; Discovery Insights, Communications, Production & Development, Business Affairs, Travel, Security, IT, Production Management, Insurance, Business Affairs and Finance, etc.
2. Serve as the primary liaison with key internal clients to ensure a responsive, communicative and client service oriented Operations
3. Develop, monitor, support and operationalize initiatives and best practices, and provide on-going guidance and mentorship in Operations across GTMO, including regular meetings and other communications
4. Serve as central point of contact for questions about Talent payments, and collaborate with Finance and Production Management to address and engage on continuous process improvement, including managing payments from time to time
5. Manage technology infrastructure, including SalesForce based system for tracking and reporting key data
6. Manage data governance standards, and operationalize in partnership with GTMO team
7. Support GTMO team with best practice resources and materials, including onboarding, brand profiles, social media templates, presentations, etc
8. Collect and review Talent analytics to
9. Track, report and understand key metrics, examples of successes and lessons learned in an accessible and global company environment
10. Develop and regularly produce a Talent Operations dashboard tracking goals for effective, efficient and impactful use of budget, data and systems
11. Work with Business and Legal Affairs to interpret contracts
12. Always be thinking of continuous process improvement to identify and recommend specific short and long term business strategies, processes and opportunities
13. Identify operational needs and service, and liaise with and contribute to the centralized Operations team – to provide support in travel, payments, tracking, reporting, etc.
14. Embrace and contribute to best practices in global Talent Management and operational excellence
15. Manage team budget with monthly reconciliation
Management
1. Support global GTMO team in day to day Operations
2. Manage and coach Operations Coordinator
3. Mentor and coach in Operations across GTMO
4. Collaborate closely with the GTMO team to ensure business priority access to Talent, manage contractual compliance, troubleshoot Talent issues and leverage Talent and deals in order to support content, events and network and corporate business initiatives;
5. Provide “bench support” for GTMO team members as needed
Requirements
What you need to have:
* A minimum of 8 years of experience in operations
* Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to take initiative, be strategic, make firm decisions, and offer a high level of client service
* Excellent verbal and written communications
* Proven ability to lead & read a room, including strong presentation skills in person and remotely
* Proven ability to present clear, consise and engaging ideas
* Proven ability to succeed and rise to the occasion in a dynamic enviroment
* Proven ability to succeed in a matrixed environment
* Proven ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects across clients, time zones, and with competing deadlines in a fast paced environment

* Must have the legal right to work in the United States

* Knowledge of the top Talent agencies and management firms in the industry and relationships at such agencies/firms a plus
* Knowledge of and/or experience in media, sports, entertainment and/or Talent business a plus
