Our Team
The Research, Data & Strategic Insights team enables a holistic 360 view of the consumer and content for the entire Discovery portfolio. The team leverages a central research model providing data and analytics services that can be accessed by all consumer-facing business functions. This team creates a shared, cohesive language with standardized data, metrics, and reporting to enable a global research community.
The Role
Discovery is seeking a Director, with a strong background in ad-sales research and insights, for the newly formed Shared Service research team. This role will support the Vice President of Corporate Research in leading and mentoring a pool of analysts. The director will be responsible for creating a cohesive reporting narrative across Discovery’s ad-sales bundles to optimize monetization efforts.
Responsibilities
1. Work with ad sales, brand and corporate teams to fulfill their data and insights needs through standardized and automated reporting.
2. Manage and mentor a pool of research analysts in their efforts to transform data into valuable/actionable information.
3. Communicate data and insights in meetings, strategy sessions, emails, written and oral presentations
4. Develop creative approaches to uncover consumer insights and marketplace trends to support audience building initiatives.
5. Provide expertise on competitive trends and the changing television landscape.
6. Facilitate discussions with business users to surface and prioritize issues, requirements, and solutions.
7. Follow data management best practices and provide a central source of truth that drives multi-platform business optimization as well as accountability across the organization.
8. Experience with brand research is a plus.
Requirements
* Minimum 8 years of experience in media research, cable television preferred.
* Thorough knowledge of Nielsen data and systems (i.e. NPower), Lake 5, MRI and Simmons.
* Expansive understanding of media industry topics and trends, including content, marketing, advertising, branding, experience and consumer technology.
* Solid research, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
* Ability to synthesize information and research data to ''tell a story'' with action-oriented implications
* Ability to work in a fast-paced high-pressure environment without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong interest in understanding consumer behavior
* Team player
* Must be able to present to executive leaders in various forums
* Must be able to work independently, yet take direction well when necessary
* Proficient with Excel and PowerPoint
* Minimum of a BS or BA degree required
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
