Director, Record To Report -The Americas
Discovery, Inc., the new global leader in real life entertainment with powerful brands such as Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, HGTV, Food Network, and Travel Channel, is searching for a Director – Record to Report in Knoxville, TN to join our Global Business Services (“GBS”) team.

The Director Record to Report will lead the team responsible for the company’s US/LATAM transactional SG&A accounting. This individual should be comfortable working directly with senior management of the company as well as the external auditors.
Responsibilities
1. Oversee accounting staff, including direct supervision of team; train and assess team performance
2. Review and approve work of accounting staff, to include journal entries, reconciliations, etc.
3. Develop and manage US/ International HQ Packets (Quarterly reporting to NYSE/shareholders output stream), US/ international HQ Reconciliations
4. Oversee the Completion of quarterly balance sheet commentary for US/international locations and present the commentary to finance leaders.
5. Develop, implement and maintain systems, procedures and policies, including accounts payable functions to ensure adherence to company guidelines
6. Manage monthly closing of financial records and posting of month end information; ensures accuracy of financial statements for international locations.
7. Provide accounting assistance to project managers and operations staff; respond to financial questions/concerns to meet business needs
8. Act as a liaison between the company, government and external accountants to meet information needs and to ensure that proper information is maintained for historical purposes
9. Influence decision-making around prudent and thoughtful spending.
10. Develop talent and career track for team members; Leverage team members to improve overall productivity, enhance motivation and balance workloads.
11. Participate in high visibility and impact projects when relevant.
12. Lead and manage the month end accounting close in compliance with Discovery policies and US GAAP.
13. Facilitate the integration of newly acquired business accounting functions and responsibilities into Global Business Services structure and lead compliance with Discovery financial policies and procedures.
14. Work with Tax and Treasury organization to ensure effective execution of initiatives.
15. Provide support to acquisition due diligence and purchase accounting analysis.
16. Manage timely, accurate and complete delivery of US GAAP compliant financial information; resolution of accounting and reporting matters.
17. Facilitate research, analysis and reporting on corporate and division requests.
18. Work with Internal Audit and external auditors to ensure effective control environment and implementation of any SOX compliance requirements.
Requirements
* BS/BA in related discipline from an accredited institution
* Minimum of 7 years of experience and a strong understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), IFRS, and SOX requirements
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role
* CPA required
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
* Experience in International Accounting.
* Ability to work independently as well as working collaboratively with team members across the organization and prioritize multiple deliverables with competing deadlines
* Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint)
* Attention to detail and accuracy as well as strong organizational skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to foster positive working relationships across the organization
* Strong individual with team leadership, excellent oral and written communication, articulate, detail oriented and accounting research skills.
* Superior work ethic and a dedication to the highest work quality and job excellence
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to a culture of excellence, integrity and accountability
* Ability to identify, analyze and make recommendations to senior management on accounting issues.
* Strong project management skills, with the ability to proactively manage a variety of projects and timelines; demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and an ability to manage multiple assignments and deliverables.
* Ability to assess priorities, assign resources and maintain composure and diplomacy at all times.
* Ability to accomplish goals within cross-functional operating environment
* Proficiency of SAP a plus
* Previous experience in public accounting and/or the entertainment industry preferred a plus
