Discovery Inc. is the leader in lifestyle media with top brands such as Food Network, HGTV, the Discovery Channel, and the Travel Channel. We are looking for a dynamic Product Design leader with deep UX and Interaction Design expertise to join our team and create compelling, easy, and joyful customer experiences for our direct-to-consumer digital products. This role will be a mixture of hands-on work driving all aspects of UX and Interaction Design from concept through design and delivery, as well as managing and growing a small, UX-focused team.
Responsibilities
1. Partner with other team leaders (Product, Design, Editorial, Marketing, Engineering, etc.) to create innovative, world-class experiences that span a cross-platform ecosystem (mobile, web, connected tv, and emerging platforms)
2. Understand our customers and their values deeply; always fiercely advocate from the customers’ perspective
3. Define the overall journey flows of how, when, and why our customers interact with our digital products across a range of scenarios and states
4. Approach designing the user experience with a strong storytelling point of view, embracing input from fellow team members
5. Obsess on the micro-interactions of each feature that make the product delightful and really sing; make each interaction effortless and joyfully engaging
6. Explore a wide range of solutions without being overly precious about any - understand that it’s about getting to the right solution for the customer
7. Approach the design system and interaction patterns holistically - ensure consistency of reusable patterns across the product and its platforms
8. Effectively communicate your ideas and underlying thinking through in-person presentations and comprehensive documentation (flows, wireframes, prototypes, etc.)
9. Work with a range of design, wireframing, and prototyping tools (Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, Proto.io, Invision, Zeplin, Google Suite, whiteboards, sticky notes, pen and paper)
10. Contribute to the planning, preparation, and analysis of user testing - both for value proposition and usability
11. Be flexible and willing to pursue alternate solutions based on user testing, feedback, and data
12. Work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment
13. Contribute to the continuous evolution of our work culture and collaborative processes
14. Manage and mentor a growing team of UX resources
Requirements
* 5 years experience in User Experience/ Interaction Design; 2 years in a managerial role
* an exceptional portfolio of digital projects (shipped to market) that reflects your ability to define the overall user experience as well as includes examples of innovative and elegant interaction design solutions
* experience managing UX/design resources
* experience designing experiences for emerging platforms (voice, bots) a plus
* experience in writing for digital products a plus
* forward-thinking, imaginative, and willing to take risks with your work
* an expert in current UI trends and UX best practices
* a systematic thinker who sees the big picture (yet is still attentive to details)
* an energetic and natural leader, with a talent for relationship building
* a strong and confident communicator (verbal, written, and visual)
* a proactive problem solver
* excellent with time-management
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
