Discovery is seeking a high-performance team member to create, develop and edit culinary content for its digital properties. Position is integral to the success of Food Network and Cooking Channel’s digital strategy.
• This position reports to the Food Network Editorial Director.
• This person must work collaboratively with members of Food Network’s culinary, digital programming and editorial teams to ensure deadlines are met.
• This person must develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the Discovery enterprise teams (video, affiliate sales, search), culinary editors, social teams and the Food Network and Cooking Channel Programming teams in Knoxville, TN and New York City, NY.
Responsibilities
1. Pitch well thought-out, on-trend ideas for videos, articles and recipes for site and social with audience engagement and growth goals in mind.
2. Write and edit content in the areas of pop culture, recipes and cooking and general culinary topics.
3. Write and edit content to promote Discovery linear shows and other Discovery initiatives.
4. Pitch culinary concepts for integrated and sales opportunities.
5. Pitch and write affiliate revenue-generating stories and product roundups, conduct product tests.
6. Manage the workflow for the Snapchat culinary team, including managing content creation and video shoot budgets. Work in the dynamic role, which includes acting as a culinary producer and food stylist on set.
7. Must be comfortable appearing on camera.
8. Collaborate with the snapchat video team to align on major brand initiatives and to support cross-platform opportunities.
9. Coordinate the creation of the annual food trends report and bi-weekly internal newsletters.
10. Act as a thought leader in the digital food space and a reference person for culinary research questions for those outside the culinary department.
11. Maintain a running list of trend research throughout the year.
Requirements
* Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred; 3-5 years Test Kitchen experience or related cooking experience required.
* Previous editorial experience required.
* Knowledge of and passion for pop culture, health, cooking and dining out—must be food obsessed.
* Knowledge of web and mobile technologies, media production, web design, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to coordinate and prioritize large and diverse workload to meet deadlines.
* Initiative to work independently and proactively, and ability to assess and prioritize information.
* Strong writing skills, specifically to fit the voice of the overall brand/site strategy.
* Broad understanding of online recipe content and metadata strategies.
* Ability to manage and thrive in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
* Knowledge of primary research, writing, editing, and copy style.
* Ability to manage work of self and others.
* Advanced attention to detail.
* Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience.
* Strong industry experience—digital, entertainment/lifestyle media, new platforms (mobile, social, etc.), product development—is required.
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
