Full Time Job
The Coordinating Producer serves as the key partner to assigned Production Executives (Executive Producers, VPs, etc.) by providing creative, administrative, and editorial support on series and/or specials. The CP, in partnership with the Production Executives and with full knowledge of their assigned projects, is empowered to deal with editorial, communication, and delivery issues that may arise. The CP uses his or her familiarity with projects to interface effectively with other departments including Development, Marketing, Production Management, Social Media, Ad Sales, Press and Online. The CP also takes on production responsibilities such as supervising cut-to-clock editing and reversions, providing editorial notes, story research and fact-checking, and managing editorial schedules, among others. The CP serves as the main point of contact for shows assigned to the Production Executives and uses independent judgment to determine how inquiries should be handled. He or she works closely with his/her manager to ensure that the network’s editorial vision and production deadlines are met. The CP also acts as liaison between Production Companies and all internal parties.
Responsibilities
1. Manage program reversioning. Includes developing production schedule and budget, working with Talent Relations to select and coordinate narrator/talent, working with Post Scheduling, collaborating with Legal to identify potential issues, rewriting scripts with Executive Producer or freelance writer, gathering materials from other departments (e.g., ad sales, social media and creative services), and supervising off-line and on-line edits, narration record and audio mix sessions.
2. Contribute to production reports by updating all pertinent show information for assigned projects. Make sure internal databases contain accurate info for shows such as current delivery and shoot dates, segment times, episode titles, program/series descriptions, etc.
3. As assigned, take the lead in providing editorial feedback to outside producers following evaluation of production schedules, treatments, rough cuts, fine cuts, and other materials, under supervision of VP, EP or Producer. Safeguard quality and accuracy of DCI brands and standards, ensuring that executives’ creative and strategic visions are being met by production partners.
4. On occasion, travel to field shoots and provide on-location production services such as editorial input, story research, recce/location scouting, grip, talent wrangler, etc.
5. Coordinate and manage special projects such as internal/external presentation tapes for industry markets/events, quarterly tapes, corporate functions, etc.
6. Facilitate program fixes (changes in narration, graphics, picture, and audio) as needed.
7. Write program summaries, brainstorm program and episode titles, and other creative writing when needed.
8. Work closely with Development team to understand network’s vision for each show, ensure a smooth transition of projects from development team to production team, and help shepherd projects into pre-production after green light. Assist in research as needed.
9. Work closely with Production Manager, Production Coordinator and Executive Producer to coordinate receipt of editorial deliverables.
10. Liaise with Digital Media and Production Companies to help obtain materials for Aftershows and additional online projects when needed.
11. Make copies/dubs and distribute tapes, scripts, proposals, schedules, and correspondence.
12. Attend departmental meetings including production meetings, research presentations, focus group testing, quarterly updates, company-wide presentations, etc.
13. Arrange meetings and conference calls regarding editorial content on projects. Set up phone bridges, conference rooms, etc. as needed.
14. Ensure that marketing, press, online, communications, digital media, social media, etc. have access to all relevant footage – for use in promotion, website material and clip reels.
15. Order dubs as needed from duplication database. Manage Digital Media Center screening rooms. Provide DVD copies of cuts for executives as requested.
16. With support of executive team, attend industry events and keep abreast of industry news and the competitive environment.
17. Act as a host to production partners and talent when they are guests of the network at production meetings, Discovery events, etc.
18. As required for assigned projects, work with Production Executive to coordinate and communicate with other DCI departments, including:
19. Press/IPR – Provide treatments, episode descriptions, cuts, production delivery dates and shoot locations. Coordinate with Press regarding promotable titles and projects for Upfront and TCA. Programming – Provide current delivery dates, episode descriptions, episode and show titles, program clips for as sales reels, master delivery updates, and Upfront information. Develop alternative program titles, provide parental ratings, and recommend viewer advisories. Coordinate with them to make sure airdates are feasible and up-to-date on reports.
20. Ad Sales- Provide show descriptions, footage and any other materials needed for presentations. Brainstorm possible integration ideas. Ensure any sold integrations are inserted into final masters by managing edits and obtaining client approvals through Ad Sales. Liaise with Ad Sales, EP and Production Company to manage tradeout process. Flag any potential show content issues.
21. Awards / Competition – Provide required information for selected award entries and/or materials (includes information such as clips, episode and segment selection, program descriptions, credits, contact info and premiere dates.)
22. International – Provide production updates for shows with international investments, inform appropriate individuals of changes or fixes to programs that may be of concern to international networks. Flag possibly sensitive editorial concerns for the benefit of regional partners.
23. Marketing & Promotions – Act as liaison between Production Company and marketing to get promo selects, talent throws to camera, show title treatments and any other deliverables needed for campaigns. Liaise on their behalf to talent when needed.
24. Standards & Practices – Work with EP to communicate potentially sensitive content issues to S&P before they become problematic. Ensure all S&P notes are addressed in final masters.
25. Respond to any special requests from Viewer Relations, Ad Sales, Affiliate Sales, Digital Media, Marketing, Communications, Commerce, Government Relations, Social Media, etc.
Requirements
* Minimum of four years of television production experience, including long-form documentary, reality television, scripted, news, or equivalent.
* Bachelors’ degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
* Knowledge and experience in television production including writing, editing and field production or proven skills.
* Strong communication, administrative and organizational skills.
* Ability to work on multiple projects and with multiple executives simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
* Knowledge of typical office software such as Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, etc.
* Legal right to work in the U.S.
