This position will be responsible for a portfolio of Talent and Producer royalty participations. The Royalty Specialist will proactively review contract and amendment verbiage for a full understanding of Royalty participation obligations and potential receivables. The Specialist will also work closely with the Revenue Accounting team to understand all sources of revenue for his/her portfolio and correctly include participatory revenue on royalty statements. The Specialist will also provide assistance and backup to his/her counterpart. The ideal candiate will be inquisitive, detail oriented, organized, tactful, take full ownership of his/her portfolio, and create constructive working relationships across teams.
Responsibilities
1. Review contract terms relevant to Royalty participations and ensure terms are correctly applied in calculating royalty obligations
2. Maintain an awareness of new Discovery series and seasons which may result in new Royalty participations. Work with Manager to confirm series and seasons are logged for any related participations.
3. Prepare royalty payable statements quarterly ensuring that statements reflect most current obligations and all revenue streams applicable. Ensure calculations are correct and foot acurately.
4. As necessary, internally distribute royalty payable statements to various divisions for approval prior to delivery.
5. Ensure timely distribution of royalty statements to Talent and Producers and to Accounts Payable.
6. Track and manage payment status.
7. Prepare and distribute royalty receivable invoice billings for participations due to Discovery and track subsequent collection. Provide information to Cash and Revenue Accounting teams to record activity in SAP general ledger.
8. Build relationships with Business/Legal Affairs to become main contact for inquiries and communication for his/her portfolio.
9. Research individual inquiries, document responses to internal and external inquiries.
10. Assist in audit queries.
11. Maintain accurate and organized filing.
12. Evaluate existing practices to recommend ways to automate and make calculations more efficient.
13. Participate in tactical and strategic royalty related initiatives as assigned.
14. Ad-hoc projects, queries, investigation and analysis.
Requirements
What you need to have:
* Candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of accounting or finance related work experience
* Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in finance or accounting or equivalent experience required.
* Candidate should have general understanding of US GAAP
* Technical proficiency in Excel.
* Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
* Must be able to perform basic analysis of contract activity.
* Ability to meet strict deadlines.
* Must be well organized and extremely detail oriented.
* Must be self-motivated with ability to multitask and prioritize high work volume.
* Work well independently or in a team situation.
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
It’s a plus if you have:
* Proficiency of SAP
* US GAAP Revenue recognition experience
