Responsibilities
What you will be doing:
1. Oversee accounting staff, including direct supervision of team; train and assess team performance
2. Review and approve work of accounting staff, to include journal entries, reconciliations, etc.
3. Develop departmental procedures and educate internal/external customers
4. Develop, implement and maintain systems, procedures and policies, including accounts payable functions to ensure adherence to company guidelines
5. Manage monthly closing of financial records and posting of month end information; ensures accuracy of financial statements
6. Provide accounting assistance to project managers and operations staff; respond to financial questions/concerns to meet business needs
7. Act as a liaison between the company, government and external accountants to meet information needs and to ensure that proper information is maintained for historical purposes
8. Forge relationships with Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), operation groups, other functional accounting teams supporting financial accounting and reporting for US operations (US networks, digital media, education, corporate functions).
9. Advise FP&A and senior management on financial performance and analysis on cost of revenue and SG&A matters (including identification of drivers on variance).
10. Influence decision-making around prudent and thoughtful spending.
11. Become a problem solver within the CoR-SGA areas.
12. Develop talent and career track for team members; Leverage team members to improve overall productivity, enhance motivation and balance workloads.
13. Participate in high visibility and impact projects when relevant.
14. Lead and manage the month end accounting close in compliance with Discovery policies and US GAAP.
15. Support the implementation and expansion of SAP in new territories around the world.
16. Facilitate the integration of newly acquired business accounting functions and responsibilities into CoR and SG&A structure and compliance with Discovery financial policies and procedures.
17. Work with Tax and Treasury organization to ensure effective execution of initiatives.
18. Provide support to acquisition due diligence and purchase accounting analysis.
19. Manage timely, accurate and complete delivery of US GAAP compliant financial information; resolution of accounting and reporting matters.
20. Facilitate research, analysis and reporting on corporate and division requests.
21. Work with Internal Audit and external auditors to ensure effective control environment and implementation of any SOX compliance requirements.
Requirements
What you need to have:
*Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution.
*Minimum 7 years accounting experience with requisite certifications (CPA, CGMA, CMA)
*Minimum of 7 years of experience and a strong working knowledge of US GAAP / IFRS accounting standards and Internal Control framework requirements (COSO, SOX).
It’s a plus if you have:
*Proficiency of SAP
*Background in FP&A
*Experience in creating financial and other data models
*Ability to work independently as well as working collaboratively with team members across the organization and prioritize multiple deliverables with competing deadlines
*Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint)
*Attention to detail and accuracy as well as strong organizational skills
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills
*Ability to foster positive working relationships across the organization
*Strong individual with team leadership, excellent oral and written communication, articulate, detail oriented and accounting research skills.
