Game Engine Artist (Unity/ Unreal/ Virtual Production/ Animation + Virtual Camera)

Cinecode, the Virtual Production arm of DigitalFilm Tree (DFT) is growing and we're excited to add a Game Engine Artist to our team. Reporting to our Head Producer, the Game Engine Artist is responsible for setting up multi-user projects in the game engine, from environment, lighting, particle fx, generating 3D rigged characters, to creating animated sequences using 3D or 2D characters & virtual cameras. In addition, the Game Engine Artist must have experience with scaling Maya, Sketchup, Lidar files etc. , converting measurement units, minimal experience with 3D modeling, as well as troubleshooting + finding fixes where needed. The Game Engine Artist must have a basic understanding of Film/TV Production workflows, shots + camera equipment, and know how to tell a story. Work ranges from creating Previsualization to Finalvis of action heavy scenes for stunt coordination/VFX, safety protocols, or prototype full scale environments.
Soft Skills:

^ Is proficient in using Virtual Production tools in both Unity, and Unreal Engine.
^ Can work in both 3D + 2D
^ Familiar with environments : 2D sprites, 3D: FBX., OBJ. SKP. glTF., CC3., Lidar, or Point Cloud.
^ Able to work between desktop and VR based projects.
^ Can project manage, switching between competing priorities, keeping track of tasks, keeping team updated; following directions clearly & keeping projects organized based off of our templates.
^ Knows how to explain, present, & document workflows or new techniques to other teammates.

^ Our team consists of animators + developers we keep each other up to date on any project changes as we progress, let other teammates know what projects you're actively working on or switching to, sharing new workflows, and ways to make our process more efficient.
^ Clear on communicating project information to avoid merge conflicts when pushing projects over via Perforce (p4v), & preventing overwriting any work.
^ Animators + Developers work together when it comes to troubleshooting & testing; individual has to be able to quickly adapt between departments, and is able to solve problems that don't always have clear solutions.
^ Quick + clear communication. The team should always available to clarify, answer questions, or provide progress checks when requested.
^ Not afraid to ask questions. It's always best to make sure & check in that things are clear when new workflows + tasks are presented.

Service/ Job Duties:
- Proficient with creating scenes/levels, knowing how to use timeline/sequencer, virtual camera/ cinecamera, using animation clips + keyframing, creating custom animation clips, retargeting animations, lighting for day or night, importing + exporting 3D models with or without animation, packaging & migrating assets, export settings, & rendering.
- Creating virtual shots with animated sequences using animation clips in a fast-paced setting, or realtime session with clients.
- Must deliver high quality work that meets team + client expectations.
- Help export shots with proper delivery formats + codecs, frame rates, naming convention, burn-in info, & metadata.
- Work with 3D/2D assets, Lidar, Point Cloud, Sketchup, CC3, or Mixamo.
- Can import, export, optimize 3D models, create low poly assets, auto rig in various 3D softwares: Maya, Blender, C4D, Sketchup, etc.
- Familiarity with creating 3D characters in CC3, Mixamo, or working with characters from asset packages.
- Create proper timelines + client expectations when starting new projects.
- Use Perforce (p4v) to push and pull projects. (This is our way of merging projects + assets.)
- Troubleshoot where needed.
- Join client sessions for real time previs. Modifying changes on the spot, troubleshooting, taking notes on any additional revisions or client requests.
- Research + ask questions for specific projects.
- Personally accountable for deadlines.
- Comfortable with working overtime when necessary to meet deadlines.
- Deliver media on time in an environment with quick turnaround times.
- Responsive to emails, slack messages, texts or calls.
- Attending team + company meetings.

Experience & Education:
+ Fluent with PC.
+ 2+ years experience with virtual production in the game engine. Must know how to animate characters, virtual cameras, or other assets, and export shots properly.
+ Proficient at both Unity and Unreal Engine in a collaborative setting.
+ Comfortable doing independent research/testing/learning.
+ Ability to explain/teach projects + workflows clearly and concisely.
+ Has an understanding, or has previously worked in the Film/ TV industry. We're looking for people who know how to tell stories visually.
+ Ability to work in a team, and individually.
+ Multitask between projects, and can pick up on any remaining tasks.
