Job Title: Head of Production
Department: XR
Reports to: Executive Vice President, XR
Status: Exempt
Classification: Full Time, Staff
Purpose of the job:
The Head of Production for XR (Los Angeles) is responsible for the management of all XR production through the studio. This position oversees the department's team of Producers and works closely with the EVP, EP, and Creative Supervisors/Leads. The Head of Production is a key management role and integral to the success of the DD XR studio.
The candidate must have experience in commercial post-production, game cinematic, 360° VOD, VR, AR and Interactive. Some experience with developers and platform groups is advantageous but not essential.
In addition to oversight of resource management, bidding, and budget management on individual projects, the Head of Production will also be responsible for maintaining effective communication and relationships across the XR group.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Management of Producers and Production Coordinators
- Assess and evaluate XR production, creative, and technical needs to complete the project efficiently and effectively
- Assess, manage, and allocate relevant Supervisors, Leads, Producers, and Production teams to each project
- Collaborate with the XR Resource Manager, Producers, and Supervisors to ensure projects are staffed for success
- Monitor production requirements and workflows, both onsite in the Los Angeles studio or remotely
- Maintain an overview of all producers' schedules, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest achievable standard
- Monitor running cost with finance group on overall budgetary targets and project progress
- Meet with Producers on a regular basis to monitor project budgets and ensure that they are working within established targets
- Work with EP and senior management to set approved budgets at start of project
- Liaise with EVP and EP in all areas of responsibility and budgetary importance as needed
- Serve as key point of contact for issues arising in productions, escalating issues and recommendations to EP as required
- Hire freelance Line Producers and other key roles as project needs dictate
- Manage production insurance and work with broker to guarantee coverage on all necessary projects
- Create and/or review service agreement, releases, and licenses in accordance with each project in collaboration with various department heads
- Have a vision for the growth of a fully functional production team that can operate at scale across broadcast/live action/VFX
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in film, art, communications or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in media/entertainment, gaming, or high tech sectors
- Proven track record producing short-form and/or commercial content
- Experience in 360 or Immersive experiences
- Experience developing and pitching creative
- Experience managing production budgets and schedules
Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:
- Ability to work effectively, gain credibility and respect of others
- Ability to lead and persuade others, positively influencing the outcome of team efforts
- Stellar client-facing communication skills required
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps required
- Experience with production tracking and asset management software-especially Shotgun-a plus
- Excellent analytical, presentation and writing skills required
- Connected, able to bring a 'new rolodex' that is complementary
- Knowledge base of current industry and technology trends preferred
- Able to manage high volume of information
- Qualified candidates will be highly motivated self-starters with an energetic and assertive disposition
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:
- Office working environment
- Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending production needs
- Walking/bending/sitting
- ~5% travel requirement
