dick clark productions, a diverse entertainment company and producer of a wide range of television programming, including awards shows, specials, and reality series, is seeking a highly qualified Manager, Music Clearance. This position will be based in Santa Monica.
Job Responsibilities:
• Work closely with Production to determine which songs are to be performed and used in show/production
• Research song and master recording ownership using online resources including ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GMR, Harry Fox Agency, AllMusic, Discogs, among others.
• Prepare quote requests detailing show/production information, song information, proposed use, as well as, rights for specific production
• Negotiate with rights-holders all aspects of quote request, including territory, term, media and fees
• Regularly manage and maintain the song status grid/database, which includes production/show name, song titles, composer(s) and publisher/label information, ownership splits, etc.
• Provide Production with a current Status Update that outlines which songs have been approved and/or denied, as well as, advise them of potential trouble songs and assist with resolving any issues
• Oversee preparation of music cue sheets, review for accuracy and distribute to relevant parties
• Request and/or draft synchronization license agreements for all applicable licensors
• Review license agreements for terms/rights and accuracy and process for signature
• Create check requests and submit to accounting for processing. Maintain copies of checks, licenses, payment cover letters and other documents for our records and send payment packet to licensors
• Co-manage the Music Clearance Coordinator
• Maintain general departmental filing (physical and digital) and handle basic administrative duties
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
• The ability to understand agreements and terms pertaining to music clearance/licensing, including but not limited to territory, term and media
• Knowledge of music clearance and music licensing procedures, as well as, an understanding of copyright, music publishing and the music industry in general
• 3-5 years experience in music clearance, music publishing/licensing, contract administration and/or music legal
• Experience in a production company, film/television studio or television network is highly preferred
• Established relationships with music publishers, record labels, attorneys, agents, etc.
• High attention to detail, exceptional written/verbal communication skills and extremely organized
• Strong math skills including the ability to understand and calculate territorial splits
• Comprehensive follow-up and research skills
• Ability to work proactively and independently on multiple projects under tight deadlines in a fast-paced production environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and use of the Internet
