JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing, organizing, planning, directing and evaluating the accounting/finance functions for the Detroit Tigers. This includes the following functions: accounting, internal and external financial reporting, financial analysis, variance analysis, commission payments, and financial projects. The Director also supports budgeting, forecasting and league reporting and ensures financial policies, procedures and internal controls are adhered to.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Treasury departments
• Support development of the annual budget as well as monthly reporting of financial statements, forecast versus budget reports, statements of cash flow, and other related documents
• Implement best practices to facilitate the production of timely, accurate, and actionable financial information in an efficient manner for multiple levels of the organization
• Partner with Department Leaders to develop realistic financial projections that can be used to drive timely decision making to ensure the Company's strategy objectives are met
• Manage annual external and internal audits
• Assist the VP of Finance in responding to requests for financial data from various sources (MLB, Bankers, ownership)
• Responsible for ensuring all company financial practices follow current applicable government and other regulatory agency requirements
• Review and approve vendor invoices and authorize payments
• Review monthly bank reconciliations
• Aggressively identify inefficiencies in financial processes and implement innovative process improvements to reduce the time required to close the books and reconcile account balances
• Create and implement policies in finance and accounting
• Provide financial reporting and act as liaison to IHI tax department
• Review monthly financial statements for Lakeland Tigers Food Service
• Interface with payroll department regarding tax issue and general ledger postings
• Lead and direct the finance and accounting team to generate maximum efficiency and productivity by developing staff, utilizing meaningful metrics, establishing clear goals and by continuous review of policies and procedures
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Interviewing, hiring, and training colleagues; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining colleagues; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting with a minimum 10 years of broad financial and accounting experience in a dynamic, diversified service organization (sports and live entertainment experience is preferred).
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles to ensure that financial results are in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including strong accounting technical research skills.
• Strong knowledge of both internal and external financial reporting requirements.
• Proven ability to think strategically and develop and implement solutions that address strategic business objectives.
• Strong project management and process improvement skills, including demonstrated ability to think end-to-end and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Highly organized, self-driven business style with strong ability to prioritize, multitask, and direct the work of support staff.
• Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to work across all departments and vertically at all levels of the organization.
• Proven problem-solving skills that support sound issues resolution.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy with high standards for quality; the ability to keep accurate and detailed records; and the ability to analyze the effectiveness of procedures and controls.
• Demonstrated leadership and development skills to properly train and develop staff to meet department objectives.
• Possess the highest integrity and ethical standards and the ability to command and inspire trust with all constituents.
• Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and ERP system skills.
