Director, Technical Services

We currently have an opening for a Director, Technical Services. This position is located in Burbank, California.

Group Overview

The International Localization and Audio Group has three primary business functions:

(i) Provides end to end dubbing services to studios and broadcast clients

(ii) Provides complete audio services for both domestic and international clients

(iii) Provides subtitling services for theatrical, home entertainment, and broadcast clients

Position Overview

Oversee the day-to-day production of the technology and R&D group so that delivery deadlines are met. Manage development schedules. Address and resolve technical issues with the software being created for all group functions listed above. Understand and research the technical specifications of development projects in order to provide sound recommendations and troubleshoot development challenges. Interface with other department heads on specific needs.

Primary Responsibilities

- Technology and R&D Manager

- Acts as direct supervisor for programmers, and technology focused staff in subtitling and dubbing
- Acts as project manager for tool development and responsible for operational maintenance, bug fixes, and client requests
- Support Directors of Dubbing and Subtitling for all technology needs and requirements


- Program Management

- Lead multiple software development projects and ensures on-time delivery of projects Acts as interface between the internal ‘client’ and external development team
- Responsible for coordination of all efforts in technology area
- Overall supervision of all R&D projects from planning stage to deployment
- Prioritizing, project planning and project leadership for concurrent software development projects, working closely with Director and VP heads
- Maintains the master project plan including resource allocation and prioritization
- Arbitrates between development team and internal client
- Maintains project development timelines
- Supports development team in collecting and maintaining necessary project components (e.g. data files, GUI designs, client requirements, etc)
- Ensure creation and use of appropriate test materials (documentation, software tests, etc.)

- Requirements Capture

- Insures that developers work with client to capture and document application/business requirements
- Insures that developers work with client to develop user design, including storyboarding prototype of desired application
- Works with both client and development team to coordinate design documentation, including software design (although actual design may be developed by R&D engineer).
- Reviews and approves R&D developers requirements and design documentation prior to development beginning.


- Technical Writing

- Works to insure that proper documentation is created and is technically correct prior to formal release of development.


- Project Archiving:

- Works with development team in archiving software and associated documentation and test materials


- Process Improvement

- Takes lead role in identifying and driving departmental improvement projects to drive professionalization of production process.


- Client Management:

- Sets appropriate expectations with clients for application deployment and/or updates
- Coordinates deployment and education with clients for each application release
- Coordinates client documentation, including use of centralized document repository
- Collects input/bug reports from clients; communicates timing for application revisions



Qualifications

- 5+ years in a development position as an individual contributor.

- 5+ years in a management position (managing multiple teams, leading a team, defining schedules, proven release track record).

- Proficient in C++, .NET, ASP, SQL, all current audio and video codecs, servers and internet transmission systems

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Solid understanding of the software development and software quality lifecycles.

- Ability to lead and facilitate internal and external meetings to drive required results; proven group and project leadership or management ability.

- Ability to energize a team toward the accomplishment of specific goals

- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail

- A "can-do" attitude, with the ability to energize and work with multi functional teams is required

- Capable of working in a fast paced global environment, with frequently changing customer requirements.

- Ability to develop and build relationships in both functional and technical teams
