Help bring big art to Coachella!
We are a collaborative team of artists that has been asked to create a large-scale installation art piece for the 2019 Coachella Music and Arts Festival. We are searching for artistically and/or mechanically talented and highly motivated interns to help us with the creation of this piece - from pre-production all the way through to installation on the polo fields of Coachella! This is a unique opportunity to get a hands-on and behind the scenes view of how large scale art is created and produced.
We have already started our pre-production and construction on this massive project and have a solid team of experts that you will be working with and learning from.
- Tasks that you might be asked to help with (depending on your skill sets) include:
- Sourcing/gathering materials
- Assisting with logistics
- General PA work
- Set design
- Set decorating
- Scenic painting
- Graphic design
- Video editing
- Animation
- Costuming
- If you have tech/engineering/mechanical skills you can help our FX crew build and install special effects and mechanical elements.
There are no set hours for pre-festival production. This is a volunteer position so we are appreciative of any amount of time you can give us to help out! We would love a commitment of at least a couple hours a week but we are flexible and are willing to work with your schedule. You must be able to attend one weekend of Coachella. We will only require 4-hour shifts during festival hours so that you can still go out and enjoy your time there. We want everyone on our crew to have fun!
To qualify for an internship position you must fulfill the following requirements:
- Must be able to work with us (within your schedule) from January though April.
- Must have your own vehicle and be able to drive to the downtown LA area without issue. Most of the work on the piece will be happening in the downtown LA area.
- Must be able to attend at least one weekend at Coachella. You would need to arrive on the Thursday before the event or earlier and leave on Monday after the event or later. During the event you would be camping with the crew in a special area reserved for artists.
- Must be comfortable with rough field/camping conditions in a hot desert environment
There is no monetary compensation for the internship positions. There will be enough hours offered in all positions to fulfill the requirements for school credit if needed. Please contact your school administration regarding internships for school credit. We are happy to accommodate any requirements and documentation needed to qualify for school credit.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who
- Are upperclass undergraduate or graduate student studying Art, Theater, or a related creative field
- Have a degree in Art, Theater, or a related creative field
- Can provide a letter(s) of recommendation from teachers/professors or professional contacts
- Can provide a portfolio or samples of art work
- Have a sense of humor
- Have social media management experience
- Can attend possible overnight work trips to Indio (gas and food would be paid for)
- Have a good attitude
