Full Time Job
Reporting to the VP of Marketing, the Director of Communications is responsible for building, developing and maintaining strategic communications for the Dallas Wings.
Position Responsibilities:
• Lead and execute comprehensive and integrated media relations plans for the Dallas Wings including, but not limited to news pitches, releases, feature stories, and game recaps on local, state, regional and national media.
• Serve as the primary media contact for media relations and public relations for the Dallas Wings.
• In collaboration with the VP of Marketing develop, manage and execute strategic communication plans for all team announcements, events and initiatives including, but not limited to, seasonal events, game-day coverage, community service events, marketing initiatives and partnerships.
• Oversees all basketball communications publications including, but not limited to, media guides, game programs, game notes, feature stories, and game recaps. Ensures accuracy and appropriateness of information.
• Assist team executives with public speaking engagements, presentations, and preparation of articles for publications.
• Supervise, manage and maintain the team's website ensuring that all content is accurate, current and consistent with team guidelines.
• Manage the distribution of credentials for media, officials, statisticians and other personnel and vendors for all home games.
• Oversee all game notes, team releases, statistics and manage all seasonal gameday support staff for all home games.
• Aid in the selection, training, guidance, supervision and evaluation to assigned game day contractors.
• Continuously monitor and analyze media coverage including print, radio, TV and online.
• Effectively work with other departments in the organization to coordinate publicity strategy and messaging.
• Lead game day operations including pre-game press box set up and postgame teardown, as well as managing press areas for all homes.
• Work with the Manager of Digital Content to develop and build content for social media platforms including strategy, content creation and monitoring.
Ideal Candidate Will:
• Be willing and able to travel for 100% of all road games.
• Have an extensive list of contacts in sports and entertainment locally, regionally and nationally that she/he can tap into for coverage
• Have a sophisticated understanding of media relations, communications, sports, and the DFW market
• Have a demonstrated ability to develop, maintain and foster strong relationships with industry journalists and media outlets
• Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive, productive and supportive working relationships
• Have excellent management and leadership skills with a keen attention to detail and desire to grow in this position
• Be able to contribute to a team environment
• Be able to multi-task, work independently and handle creative feedback
• Be willing to handle multiple projects at once, be self-directed, work independently and handle creative direction/feedback
• Be able to easily adapt to situational changes
• Be able to work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Be able to identify areas of opportunity and propose potential solutions while continuing to lead projects without interruption
• She/he is expected to attend all home games at College Park center, all road games, as well as other live events that may take place on holidays or weekends
Education and Background:
• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related position with proven success results
• Photoshop, InDesign, and WordPress experience a plus
