SUMMARY:
The Residuals and Participations Accountant is primarily responsible for ensuring that all contractual obligations to Crown Media's participants on its existing library, and any new acquisitions, are met as reququired, and ensuring that residuals are paid on a timely basis. This position interacts with executives and does not have direct reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Oversee set-up processes by collecting all required data and documentation/contracts to set up titles for residual payments
o Ensuring all participation and residuals payments are made on a timely basis.
• Prepare residual estimates for the production finance team;
• Ensure collaboration and information sharing among all team members, within and outside of Participations, to ensure that all issues are effectively dealt with
• Setting up participation processes and controls to ensure Crown Media meets all contractual obligations with accurate, complete and reliable participation data. Identifying areas where process and systems improvement are required.
o Prepare participation statements and facilitate all payments to ensure compliance with contractual terms and obligations
• Interacts with internal department managers to evaluate and analyze operating financials.
• Prepare monthly accrual and balance sheet reconciliations for all outstanding obligations
• Prepare Residual and Participation forecasts for current and next five year period
• Prepare statement reconciliations to determine residual obligations based on gross receipts;
• Manage and prepare royalty statements for WGA book royalties.
• Work on general accounting or special projects for Controller or Finance personnel, as needed
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• 3-5 years of Residuals and Participations experience, especially with television residuals.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• An undergraduate degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent professional experience. MBA and/or CPA a plus.
• Strongly prefer 10+ years of entertainment experience
• Detail-oriented
• Self-motivated, flexible, hands-on approach and able to work in a fast paced, multi-task environment
• Must be able to work independently with little supervision
• Must have excellent time management and organizational abilities
• Must possess willingness to work long hours, when necessary
• Must be able to multitask and meet constant deadlines
• Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality
• Must have demonstrated ability to collaborate and problem solve with executives and department managers
• Must be comfortable with managing multiple projects concurrently, and satisfying aggressive deadlines
