SUMMARY:
The Production Finance Manager, Film manages the writer payment process and will conduct accurate and timely forecasting, budgeting, tracking, accounting and reporting of TV movies and series. This includes managing the recording and tracking of cost reports from the productions and preparing the related financial reports and variance analyses. It also includes reporting on production financial status to production management and/or producers and reports regarding production and financial status and trends. This position will also be setting up and monitor adherence to production controls (including suggesting improvement to cross departmental processes); review and track information about tax credits; and respond to other ad-hock questions as required. The Manager will also provide day-to-day accounting and financial analysis for the Company's Production, Accounting and Legal Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Reply to Production Accountants on various questions and ensure production accounting rules and standards are followed.
• Track and provide updates on film asset for budgeting and costing purposes. Manage the reconciliation process for this including setting up new system or suggesting system improvements. Work with Production Accountants in the field to review budgets, cost reports, trial balances, cash reconciliations and cash forecast and reports as part of this process.
• Manage and analyze film tax credit information including liaise with auditors.
• Assist in Developing standard budgets, cash flows and standardize other processes.
• Reply to Legal, Accounting and Production regarding various ad hoc production accounting questions.
• Develop and implement reporting and recording procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
• Reply to outcomes from internal and external audit inquiries and implement any possible changes because of these inquires.
• Implement more efficient production cost IT system.
• Manage productions audit if required.
• Manage writer payment process including reviewing payments made by Crown Media finance to 3rd party payroll agency.
• Manage writers' spend across various own produced TV Movies/ Series and manage the related reconciliation to the payments made.
• Prepare reports that tracks, reports about total writer costs and total production costs to business affairs and senior management.
• Ensure proper closedown of inactive companies.
• Ensure excess cash at the productions is monitored and kept to a minimum.
• Look for production variance trends and communicates budget trends and efficiencies for future budgets.
• Ensure communication and systems is efficiently set up with the Production Department and legal to obtain information about writer work performed or upcoming work to be performed.
• Review production payments that require head office approval including for a local daily TV Production
• Maintain organized accounting record keeping.
• Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses when needed.
• Review cash schedules and needs for upcoming production. Manage schedules of upcoming cash needs.
• Conduct special projects when needed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS;
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• 3 year's management experience.
• 6 years' production accounting or finance experience (TV or Film and/or accounting in the film industry).
• Previous accounting experience including trial balance, financials and knowledge of general ledger entries required.
• Previous experience with production accounting software and Movie Magic Budgeting.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
• Prior experience with applicable guild rules in connection with both domestic and international residuals with respect to made for Basic Cable television movies. SAG-AFTRA, WGA, WGC, DGA, DGC, UPCP/ACTRA.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Advanced Excel skills and intermediate skills in all other Microsoft Office Suite applications.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Attention to detail, desire for accuracy, and a sense of urgency.
• Strong multitasking skills.
