A leading New York-based production company is looking for a qualified and highly motivated Junior Attorney / Coordinator for its Business & Legal Affairs and Rights & Clearances departments. This role will assist the Senior Vice President and Rights & Clearances Supervisor with day-to-day production legal, legal processes, and rights & clearances. The right candidate will also act as the coordinator for the departments, with the opportunity to learn all aspects and potentially grow into a full-time production legal position.
The scope of work will include:
• Responsibility for production legal on projects in development and active production.
• Assisting the deal-making process with talent, partners, creative collaborators, vendors, etc.
• Acting as a liaison between production / post-production / development teams and networks regarding releases and various production agreements.
• Watching cuts of shows to flag potential clearance issues, in conjunction with Rights & Clearances Department.
• Drafting and review E&O insurance applications and policies and coordinating insurance matters.
• Communicating regularly with outside legal counsel, network business, and/or legal affairs executives.
• High volume of administrative, research, and legal duties.
• Updating and maintaining status reports.
• Contract management.
• Assisting with special projects and other tasks as required.
This position requires an extremely capable individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is self-motivated, detail-oriented and possesses strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills, and is willing to work extended hours, often under pressure. Applicants should also possess the following:
• A minimum of 2 years of experience working in-house in the business affairs, legal and/or rights and clearances department of a production company, cable or broadcast television network, studio, agency or law firm.
• J.D. from accredited law school, excellent academic credentials, New York or California Bar membership in good standing (preferred, but not required).
• Strong initiative to take on tasks and to set priorities and deadlines, with a demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment.
• Excellent negotiation, drafting and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Excellent people skills and ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external partners.
• Ability to successfully coordinate multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
