HR has a complex role here in overseeing hiring and compliance for full-time, part-time, 1099, and remote staffing. HR will be responsible for 35+ full-time employees in California and 200+ seasonal event employees across the U.S.
Director of HR - About the Role
Reporting to the COO, the Director of Human Resources will oversee all HR and recruitment functions, /managing all areas of the Human Resources Department. The individual in this role will act as a hands-on partner for business leaders on all matters regarding HR and will provide day-to-day counsel and coaching on employee relations issues, organizational development and design, performance management, talent development, and compliance. This individual will act as liaison to centralized HR functional areas such as compensation, benefits and staffing.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Drives the implementation of HR talent acquisition, staffing, compensation and benefits, records management, training and development, employee relations, retention, diversity, and compliance
• Provides day-to-day counsel on matters concerning employee relations, including performance improvement (disciplinary process), employee investigations, HR compliance, law, and government regulations.
• Enhances and develops, implements and enforces HR policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization
• Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
• Maintain internal document management policies related to employee and contractor documentation (personal records)
• Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within the organization
• Provide strategic direction and guidance on complex employee relations issues, organizational structure, workforce planning, employee engagement, communication, and other HR initiatives
• Design and quickly implement solutions, policies, or practices that cut across multiple disciplines and stakeholders to achieve company goals without sacrificing compliance company culture
• Works with legal to review, create, administer employee, staff & faculty contract agreements
• Partners with department heads to facilitate hiring needs, ensure effective filling of all levels of hires (full-time, part-time, 1099, remote staff etc.)
• Administers employee benefit plans
• Sets long and short-term goals for HR function; participates in firm-wide strategic planning and initiatives.
• Advises all levels of management in the areas of personnel policies, performance management, problem resolution, discipline and termination.
• Conducts disciplinary and/or termination meetings with employees.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, MBA or Masters Degree in Human Resources strongly preferred
5+ years of experience in Human Resources
2+ years of experience in a Human Resources leadership role
Must have extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal laws & regulations concerning employment (Contractor vs. Employee, discrimination, harassment, wages, etc.)
Experience working in labor laws in California + other states
Experience personally handling a wide variety of complex employee relations issues
Experience working with executive-level leadership
History of success innovating, leading, and managing the execution of projects
Superior project management and process improvement skills
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities
Comfortable pushing back on senior leadership and challenging the status quo
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
Excellent at managing time and prioritizing work
Experience in entertainment or production industry
