Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Caption Writer is responsible for transcribing the audio portion of a program and create a timed text tracks or caption files intended for use by deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers. Individuals work independently to carefully transcribe from audio and create scripts. Caption writers work independently to transcribe, time and place captions for the deaf and hard-of-hearing audience for a variety of media and clients including, but not limited to, network broadcast, home video/DVD and first-run feature films. Caption writers retain responsibility for maintaining spec style preferences and consistencies. Caption writers are responsible for meeting delivery deadlines in our continued efforts to provide excellent customer service.
Candidates must demonstrate superior English language skills, including proofreading, editing, grammar, spelling and typing. Caption writer/editor experience preferred. Candidates must be able to type 60 to 70+ wpm for extended periods and work under tight deadlines and have a commitment to detail, quality and productivity. 1-3 years of work experience. General knowledge of video and audio files is preferred. Familiarity with Swift, EZTitles, MacCaption and Windows-base software is required.
This is a full time work of 40 hours per week. This starts as on temp contract with a possibility of working on a full time project contract basis. Currently, we have transitioned to a remote work model and are continuing to hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position with a possibility of transitioning to in-office work but it will be determined taking into account your individual circumstances and the Health and Safety Guidelines of the company.
