A rare leadership role at a successful Film Distributor and Sales Agency.
The Company
Our client is a leading all-rights sales agency and distribution company representing the greatest names in filmed entertainment. Backed by a very successful Venture Capital business, its classic films distribution and sales divisions represent the major Hollywood and British studios, as well as a large number of independent producers and rights holders.
Its contemporary division finances, sells and distributes arts, cultural and independent feature films. Operating worldwide, the company aims to enable audiences to experience classic and contemporary cinematic content, through working with theatrical exhibition, television, digital and home entertainment partners.
The Role
The CEO will supervise and control all strategic and operational aspects of the company, whilst working to define and deliver the future vision for long-term success.
Strategy:
• Deliver growth for the existing business, identifying opportunities to expand the rights library and exploit new markets
• Develop high quality business strategies and plans ensuring their alignment with short-term and long-term objectives
• Focus on sustainability and future-proofing, by responding to market risks and embracing new distribution technologies
• Consult with investors and outside entities to expand the vision for the company and take steps to make it a reality
• Implement initiatives to further develop the distribution infrastructure, to optimise the services and value for clients, responding and adapting to their needs.
Leadership & Culture:
• Lead, motivate and develop all staff to ensure they can deliver to agreed performance standards
• Provide strong, motivational and pragmatic leadership
• Maintain a positive and productive culture in the workplace
• Participate as a member of the board, providing advice and guidance to contribute to the effective governance of the Group.
Finance & Operations:
• Regularly review company financial accounts and non-financial metrics; devise improvements and implement solutions to any new challenges
• Oversee all operations and business activities to ensure the desired results and are achieved and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission
• Producing reports and explore ways to reduce costs, improve margins and increase revenues.
Market Knowledge & Relationships:
• Maintain a deep knowledge of the international film markets and industry, keeping the Board fully appraised of strategically important market / sector developments
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with key partners and stakeholders, developing and maintaining key relationships with senior executives at all of the major Hollywood and British film distribution companies
• Build and maintain excellent relationships with cinemas to maximise the film distribution revenues
• Act as the main point of contact for our shareholders
• Identify and build relationships with new IP owners, partners and cinemas
• Work with IP owners, film festivals and other 'showcase' partners to bring film restorations and retrospective programs and Indie films to new markets and audiences.
Please note: This role is based in Glasgow and cannot be undertaken from elsewhere.
Person specification
The ideal candidate will have a business and operational mind-set but will also be able to see the 'big picture'. They will be strong on operational detail and be numbers oriented, whilst also keeping the human element in perspective. Crucially the CEO will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key partners and clients who license films to the company.
Required:
• P&L responsibility experience: The successful candidate will have had P&L responsibility (£5m+) either as a standalone CEO or as divisional leader in a bigger organisation. Ideally with a global remit and proven success in executing profitable growth strategies and implementing vision
• A passion for film: The successful candidate will have a passion for classic and contemporary film and / or experience working in the industry with an understanding of the key players, distribution and exhibition, and film marketing.
Desired:
• Digital technology experience: The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of technology (preferably in marketing), possibly having either worked in the tech industry or having a strong interest in technology-enabled systems and process enhancement
• Studio Relationships; The ideal candidate will have existing relationships with the major and independent US Studios and understand their internal politics and processes.
