Job Title: Comedy PR & Marketing Intern

Salary: £19,890 per annum
Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a passionate comedy fan who has a knowledge and love of the best in PR and marketing to join our team. You’ll have a key role in some of the UK’s most innovative and highest-profile campaigns to promote our TV shows such as Your Face Or Mine, Impractical Jokers, Stand-Up and Friends.
Some experience in marketing or PR would be useful, but most of all you need to be full of ideas for how to get PR coverage and choose the best media and creative to catch people’s attention. If you’re willing to work hard and try your hand at something different every day then you’ll learn how every stage of making a campaign works and have the chance to work with top talent like Jimmy Carr, Katherine Ryan and Russell Howard. Of course, most jobs claim to be fun but we can tell you there’s nothing better than making people laugh every day.
The Department
The PR and Marketing Teams play a pivotal role in reaching Comedy Central’s objectives, creating campaigns that drive people to watch our shows. This is a rare opportunity to work across both disciplines because we plan and implement campaigns in a fully integrated way and bring together all other departments, including digital, events, research and programming, to make our shows a success. Outside of these specific show campaigns, we also support events such as ‘FriendsFest’.
You will keep journalists up to date with our latest exciting shows and will be a key contact for our partners at Sky, Virgin and BT, working with them to ensure that Comedy Central shows are promoted to their customers. You will also work alongside teams across Viacom, including Nickelodeon, MTV and Channel 5. So this programme will allow you to develop a broad understanding of the business as a whole.
You will report directly to the Publicist and Brand Manager and will be overseen by the Head of PR & events and the Head of Marketing Manage, ultimately reporting to the VP Marketing, Press and Creative.
Key Accountabilities
Communications - assist the team in day-to-day operations including:
• Monitor press coverage on a daily basis and file press cuttings
• Collate, write and edit a regular press summary to be sent to all Comedy Central UK staff
• Write show synopses to send out to journalists
• Deal with requests for information on press releases, such as TX info, campaign dates
• Assist in sourcing images, logos, clips and DVDs
• Cut video clips using the software Premiere
• Help with internal comms activity
• Upload programmes onto ‘Ready to Air digital’ service for journalists to view
• Assist in the organization of events, parties and screenings
Marketing - assist the team in day-to-day operations including:
• Assist in the creation and execution of marketing campaigns – from writing briefs, through to working with agencies and partners, asset supply and result reviews
• Maintain planning calendars with key show and campaign dates for internal and partner use
• Work with the Brand Executive on promoting new shows to our affiliate partners including Virgin Media and BT, as a main contact for supplying show assets
• Merchandise – liaising with suppliers to source and design products
• Liaise with US studios re: show assets and approvals
• Key role in financial admin, raising POs and updating financial records
General Duties:
• Organize and participate in team meetings and cross-departmental meetings
• Assist in compiling campaign reports, reviews and presentations
• Minute meetings and distribute them
• Print and collate information packs
• Schedule meetings/ diary management for team
• Book and prepare meeting rooms
• General admin as and when required
Experience and Knowledge
• Passion for comedy, keen interest in our shows and live stand-up
• Enthusiasm to work and progress in PR and marketing, with strong opinions on what makes a great campaign
• Full of ideas for how to promote our shows
• Excellent communication skills, including strong writing ability
• Combination of strategic and creative thinking
• Great organizational skill and attention to detail – takes pride in their work
• Enthusiastic, lively, confident and driven – a self-starter
• Team player, flexible, open to feedback and continuous learning
• Good time management, ability to prioritize projects and work to quick deadlines
• Knowledge of marketing/communications/media (preferable)
• Knowledge of media landscape – media outlets, advertising formats (preferable)
• Knowledge and interest in a wide range of social media, including Snapchat (preferable)
• MS Office skills, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word
• Experience managing a social media account (preferable)
• Basic editing skills, such as Premiere (preferable)
• Basic Photoshop or image manipulation skills (preferable)
