The Job
The Tech Op Assistant will work with show teams and Directors to perform their duties.
The primary job responsibility is to floor direct and grip during shows at CNNI, CNN and HLN studios.
There are also added responsibilities such as; prompting, script ripping and control room graphics.
This is an entry level position; qualified Tech Ops Assistants will have opportunities to explore jobs throughout the organization and within Technical Operations.
The position is designed for those pursuing careers within Technical Operations Studio Dept, Audio, EGO, TD, Master Control and eventually Directing. The Tech Ops Assistant will work with shows at CNN, HLN and CNN-International and will have opportunities to receive mentoring with some of the most accomplished professionals in the business of broadcast journalism. Training and career development will be a core focus for those in this position. Being a self-starter and someone who thrives in a creative environment is a must.
The Daily
• Floor directing and gripping live and taped shows in CNN, HLN and CNN-International studios. Ownership of the studios related to troubleshooting issues and reporting them in a timely manner. Pre-production planning responsibilities include participating in production meetings and assisting the director with camera blocking and scenery issues. Assist other studio personnel as required (prepping talent for air, etc.)
• Deliver printed scripts to talent during live and taped shows, monitor rundown on a PC; prompting as well as handle electronic graphics during taped and live programming
• Participate in career development and training for other positions within CNN technical Operations.
The Essentials
• Understanding of current news events a must. Curiosity about world events required.
• Must have a basic understanding of news production and desire to work in a news production environment.
• Must be able to work independently as well as in a team in a fast paced deadline driven environment.
• Must demonstrate initiative and take responsibility for developing your own career
• Individuals must be highly organized and have strong leadership abilities
• 1-2 years of basic TV studio production experience
• Prior work experience equaling 1-2 years which can be obtained through television stations, or relatable field. College work experience and internships can satisfy this requirement.
