Duties:
What does our department do?
The Content Development group at CNN Digital has three primary responsibilities: sales integration, franchises, and partnerships. Sales integration requires both offense and defense on major initiatives. On offense, Content Development proactively takes editorial ideas to our partners in sales for packing in the marketplace; on defense, Content Development helps facilitate the conversation from the marketplace through sales and back to editorial. Franchise development is the prioritization of the products and/or people of highest potential editorial and marketplace value, and may include any or all of the following: television programming, a digital team and daily presence, newsletters, podcasts, a video series or special, and events (examples include The Point with Chris Cillizza, Boss Files with Poppy Harlow, or Reliable Sources with Brian Stelter). Partnership development is finding ways to work with the people and organizations outside of CNN with whom we want to do new or more business (examples include The Axe Files with David Axelrod and ExplorePartsUnknown.com with Anthony Bourdain and Roads Kingdoms).
What will you be doing?
The Content Development intern in New York will assist with all three parts of our newly formed group and will gain exposure to all aspects of CNN's business. Most time will be spent with Franchise development and specifically the podcast group. In this effort, the Content Development will help execute podcast social strategy by creating assets and drafting copy, conduct research, and conduct archival video gathering, and coordinate episode placement across digital. The Content Development intern will also work closely with our Creative and UX producers across all projects - and will gain working experience with ExplorePartsUnknown.com, The Axe Files, The Point, and the development of the Magic Wall for CNN Politics.
