User Experience (UX) Researcher, CNBC
Responsibilities
CNBC Digital Product & Design is looking for a User Experience (UX) Researcher to join the team. The UX Researcher will be a core member of our newly formed in-house, user experience consultancy – a multi-disciplinary team that is laying the groundwork for User Experience Design and Innovation best practices within the organization.
The UX Researcher will report to the Director of User Experience and will work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to define and enhance the user experience of our suite of digital product.
The right person will be comfortable executing rapid, tactical research and discovery initiatives that inform product and design decision making. All while simultaneously identifying and advocating for proactive, generative research that provide a more holistic view into the needs and habits of our customers – current and future.

The right person will be comfortable executing rapid, tactical research and discovery initiatives that inform product and design decision making. All while simultaneously identifying and advocating for proactive, generative research that provide a more holistic view into the needs and habits of our customers – current and future.
Responsibilities:
• Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to define and prioritize research needs in a fast-moving environment.
• Support testing initiatives across key product areas: Web, Mobile Apps, Connected Devices (Apple TV, Roku, etc…), and Voice/Conversational apps (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, etc…)
• Collaborate with members of the UX Team to identify, develop, and test innovative ideas and concepts
• Design and conduct studies utilizing quantitative and qualitative methods such as A/B testings, surveys, ethnographic/field research, diary studies, user/usability testing (remote and in-person), and any other methods that you deem impactul.
• Work closely with user data and analytics teams to align qualitative research findings with ongoing quantitative research including surveys, A/B and multivariate testing.
• Review and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to generate tactical and strategic insights, as well as actionable recommendations which drive product innovation and design improvements for users.
• Take initiative and run with projects while being an active team player who understands that efficiency and excellence are driven by camaraderie, inclusion, and collaboration.

• Have experience (and are comfortable with) conducting rapid and effective research in a startup or similarly fast-paced environment

• Can select research/test methods that achieve the most insightful results within the realities of budget and time constraints
• Have the ability to develop in-person interview scripts but are simultaneously prepared to go completely off-script during a user interview
• Have enthusiasm for a team-oriented, collaborative, highly energetic, fun and fast-paced environment
• Are familiar with user-centered design principles, UX best practices, and heuristics
• Have worked with web and mobile products
• Have strong listening, analytical, and organizational skills
• Possess excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• Are obsessively detail-oriented, a self-starter, and an aficionado of iteration
• Are able to work with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent projects with a goal of defining and validating what an in-house user experience research capability should look like

Qualifications/Requirements
• 3-5 years of experience working within Product organizations, conducting quantitative and qualitative UX research independently
• Undergraduate degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, or a related field OR comparable UX research experience
• Proven ability to make smart decisions about how and when to apply research methods based on solid understanding of their benefits and tradeoffs.
• Experience presenting research findings to peers and senior leadership in a group setting.
Desired Characteristics
• Graduate degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, or a related field
• Experience planning and leading collaborative, cross-functional brainstorming sessions
• Experience planning and leading focus groups and/or other guided, group research
• Understanding of quantitative methods, behavioral analysis, and statistical concepts
• A working knowledge of Javascript, HTML/CSS
• Experience in the News Media Industry
