Senior Legal Counsel (Singapore)
Responsibilities
CNBC requires a mid-level lawyer to provide legal support to all aspects of the CNBC Asia Pacific business. The role reports to the VP, Legal & Business Affairs, CNBC Asia Pacific, based in Singapore.
Commercial Matters:
Negotiate and review all contractual agreements supporting the business, including:
a) channel/content distribution agreements;
b) reseller agreements;
c) services agreements;
d) licensing agreements;
e) advertising sales agreements; and
f) marketing and research agreements.
The ability to prioritise efficiently and communicate regularly and appropriately with other departments is essential.
Business Development:
Support the VP, Legal & Business Affairs and Business Development team with renewals and renegotiations of existing partnerships and joint ventures, and assist with the drafting and negotiation of new partnerships and content syndication deals across the APAC region.
Editorial:
An understanding of the regulatory and broadcasting requirements in the Asia Pacific region, particularly as they relate to programming, advertising and the editorial independence of news channels. A working knowledge of copyright concepts including fair dealing, and the ability to assist with prepublication review. Enforcement of the business' intellectual property rights.
Dispute Resolution:
Assist with the resolution of potential or actual disputes across the business.
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable laws and regulatory requirements (including broadcasting laws and competition laws).Provide assistance and training to facilitate compliance with such laws, regulations and policies. Work with the business to ensure all intermediary management requirements are met when appointing third party representatives.
General Advice:
Act as a trusted advisor and provide prompt, accurate and practical legal and commercial counsel to business teams as required.
External counsel:
Engage and supervise outside counsel as required.
Qualifications
/Requirements
• Qualified lawyer
• 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably from a TMT practice group at a highly regarded law firm and/or an international media/entertainment company
• Significant commercial and regulatory experience
• Strong transactional and drafting skills
• An understanding of the laws and regulations applicable to an international media/entertainment business will be highly regarded
• Excellent oral and written English language skills (Chinese language skills are desirable but not essential)
• Time management, client-service and problem-solving skills
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
• A commercially-minded, pragmatic team player
