Responsibilities
As Media Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the CNBC (MAM) Media Asset Management system- Managing server space, designating retention value of feeds and clips for CNBC Archives and managing metadata to enable retrieval, reuse and discovery of digital assets. The media manager will be the MAM SME (Subject Matter Expert).
The ideal candidate must be able to excel in a fast-paced environment, work well under pressure and be solution-oriented. Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to follow up are critical components of this role.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Proactively identify process improvements for business systems and interdepartmental collaborations.
• Oversee Grass Valley Stratus MAM system administration, user licensing and rights management.
• Provide access, instruction and training to new and current employees on the MAM system, as well as other editorial platform tools.
• Lead testing on software updates.
• Explore ways to refine and improve Media Content Center workflow and develop standard operating procedures as needed.
• Designate retention value of feeds and clips for CNBC Archives and manage server-space, implementing proper labeling conventions.
• Sub-clip b-roll for future use.
• Review, denote or purge outdated videos and/or logos.
• Prioritize and move files between Stratus/Edius and Avid Interplay and off-line storage
• Partner with post production to regularly review and delete project video files
• Collaborate with Long Form, Digital and other editorial groups to ensure unrestricted and approved video is archived and logged by Archivist.
• Hold periodic refresher workshops.
• Report out on storage usage, user data trends and other data analysis as requested.
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelors degree in communications, journalism or liberal arts field preferred
• Minimum 3 years working in or with post-production process
• Strong knowledge of digital media file formats ( MPEG, WMV,TGA, WAV, PSD,
DV25, etc.)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suites: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Team player
• Excellent communications skills
• Able to work well under pressure and prioritize multiple requests
• Demonstrated ability to make decisions, meet deadlines and successfully manage multiple assignments
• Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
Desired Characteristics
• Experience supporting Grass Valley Stratus and Edius products;
• Knowledge of database media management
• Familiarity with Avid Interplay, Avid iNews;
• Progressive experience working with archival and video libraries is a plus.
• Experience in news gathering in a major market.
