Department: Ballpark Operations
Job Title: Groundskeeper- Reds Youth Academy
Reports To: Head Groundskeeper
FLSA: Non-exempt
Job Purpose: Manage day-to-day playing surface operations of P&G MLB Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy (RYA) including all coordination and implementation of games, events, and playing surface maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare all grass and artificial turf surfaces to be safe, playable, and aesthetically pleasing at all times.
• Mark athletic fields and prepare dirt and artificial infield surfaces
• Coordinate through written and verbal communication with management and user groups at the RYA to relay field conditions, event scheduling, maintenance needs, and limitations of the surfaces.
• Maintain, repair and operate sprinkler and irrigation systems to include controls and valves
• Apply pesticides and fertilizers; spread mulch and decorative ground cover
• Operate all forms of power equipment, vehicles, trailers, and small engines
• Adhere to Budgetary Guidelines when planning and implementing yearly maintenance plan.
Experience, Education and Licensure:
Bachelor's degree or Associate's Degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, or Plant Science required; two years of experience maintaining baseball/softball fields preferred; Necessary ability to obtain a pesticide applicator's license in the State of Ohio within 60 days of hire. General mechanics skills a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of and experience performing all aspects of baseball and softball field preparation. Good customer service skills in responding to requests and relaying needs, field concerns, and weather reports to user groups and RYA employees. Ability to establish workload priorities and actively delegate to seasonal staff. Ability to work independently or alone at times with minimal supervision. Ability to inspect own work for accuracy. Ability to work effectively with other employees and contractors by using excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to respond with a sense of urgency and work effectively and productively. Ability to respond to daily pressure to meet deadlines while also possessing the ability to adjust plans to accommodate schedule flexibility that arises with event scheduling. Ability to learn new methods, processes, and policies. Ability and willingness to comply with all safety rules, policies, and procedures, including biohazard and other regulatory requirements.
Special Requirement:
Must be physically capable of moving about the Reds Youth Academy and adjacent fields during extended hours and in variable weather conditions.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Sprinkler and irrigation systems; Lawn Mowers, trailers, motor vehicles, drag machines, small engines, power tools, and hand tools; Phone; mobile radio, Microsoft Office. Valid Driver's License required.
Physical Demands:
Must have a willingness to work long hours and a variable schedule including weekends and holidays especially during spring, summer, and fall seasons. The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work is performed primarily in outdoor settings. Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry 50lbs. on a regular basis.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works outside in variable weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration; The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

• Provide Day-To-Day Operation while relaying concerns, needs, and issues as they arise with RYA Staff and BPO
