Department: Baseball Operations – Player Development
Job Title: Coordinator, Player Development
Reports To: Senior Director, Player Development
FLSA: Salary, Exempt
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist Senior Director, Player Development with the day-to-day management and administration of the department.
• Participate in the creation of and daily administration of the Player Development annual departmental budget.
• Maintain personnel information and rosters within internal systems.
• Assist Coordinator of Baseball Administration with day-to-day administration of rosters and execution of roster moves.
• Actively and creatively, consider opportunities to improve and streamline the process by which the Reds manage and disseminate large sets of information within Player Development.
• Effectively communicate organizational priorities and dictates to players, coaches, coordinators, and front office.
• Interface regularly with Health & Performance, Analytics, and Baseball Systems departments to ensure that Player Development is actively leveraging all available tools to help our players and staff improve.
• Participate in high-level planning and execution meetings.
• Represent departmental priorities and interests.
• Encourage and facilitate inter-disciplinary communication amongst leadership to solve complex problems.
• Cascade communication throughout Player Development front office and Baseball Operations front office.
• As assigned by Senior Director, Player Development, visit Reds minor league affiliates.
• Write comprehensive scouting reports and conduct other player evaluations as assigned.
• Model and reinforce organizational core values for players and staff.
• Interact with sympathy and empathy for players and staff, and where necessary and appropriate, effectively problem-solve on their behalf.
• Represent the organization professionally to affiliates and fans.
• Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field, such as statistics, mathematics, engineering, and/or economics preferred.
• Strong independent judgment, work ethic, and attention to detail.
• Highly organized and comfortable employing electronic means in order to be so.
• Demonstrated experience and proficiency with:
• Database querying (e.g. SQL) and statistical software (e.g. R, Python) preferred.
• Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word) required.
• Understanding of typical baseball data structures and knowledge of current baseball research, statistics and strategy.
• High level of interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with all constituencies. Conversational fluency with Spanish is strongly preferred.
• Willing and able to travel within the United States and internationally as needed, including but not limited to ability to temporarily relocate for Spring Training.
• Willing to work long, flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
• Willing to relocate if necessary to meet needs of the organization.
