CHICAGO CUBS BASEBALL OPERATIONS OPPORTUNITIES:
The Chicago Cubs Baseball Systems Department is seeking to potentially fill positions in the pre-identified areas below. The timeline to fill each position may vary and will be prioritized based on qualified candidate credentials. BASEBALL SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT ROLES MAY INCLUDE:
Software Developer
This role will focus on the development and maintenance of Cubs' internal baseball information system. This will include building APIs, traditional web interfaces, and native mobile interfaces.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree, Master's degree, or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science or similar discipline
• Experience building scalable software in a collaborative setting
• Ability to debug and profile applications, driving towards optimal performance
• Knowledge of data structures
• Experience with Javascript and relational databases
Technologies may include the following tools:
• NodeJS
• React
• ReactNative
• D3
• Elasticsearch
• PostgreSQL Redshift
• Git/Github
Data Engineer
This role will focus on the development and maintenance of Cubs' data warehouse and automated ETL processes that feed it. Collaborate with software developers and data analysts in their use of the Cubs' data warehouse and coordinate plans for database growth. Maintain data integrity across the data warehouse Construct and automate ETL processes. While also review and recommend new technologies for use by Baseball Operations department.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, or Equivalent Practical Experience in Computer Science or similar discipline
• Experience with Python
• Experience with PostgreSQL, or similar row-based RDBMS
• Experience with Redshift, or similar columnar based data warehouse
• Experience with ETL automation technology such as Airflow or Amazon Glue
Research & Development Developer Fellow
This role will focus primarily on the development of Cubs' internal baseball information web application for the 2021 season. In this role one will be exposed to full-stack application development using technologies such as Node.js, React, React Native, Redshift, and PostgreSQL. This fellowship position is designed as a full-time seasonal role for summer 2021 with the potential of extension based on performance.
Qualifications:
• Current sophomore of junior, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar discipline
• Demonstrable software projects
• Knowledge of data structures
• Desire to build web and mobile software applications
