POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Chicago Bulls are seeking a Manager of Corporate Communications to support the development and implementation of strategies and programs that focus on sharing the business and community stories of the organization. This is an excellent opportunity for a developing storyteller who can craft compelling communications and deliver impactful brand messaging, positively positioning the Bulls' off-the-court initiatives throughout all types of media.
We are seeking someone with the ability to effectively develop programs that help achieve team and partner goals, provide counsel to internal and external team members and partners, and supervise multiple projects. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this role, you will support the team's corporate communications function, with particular emphasis on our business and community efforts. Additional responsibilities include:
• Possess a strong understanding of local and national media landscapes; able to effectively generate ideas for media outreach and pitch efforts to increase visibility for the Chicago Bulls' business and community efforts
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with sports, business, technology, philanthropy and lifestyle reporters at local and national outlets
• Actively pitch media; delivering on or exceeding pitch goals
• Work independently to write informative and compelling communications materials, including press releases, media advisories, talking points, fact sheets and social media and website copy
• Partner with internal teams and serve as a liaison with corporate and community partners to develop and execute communications strategies for team partnerships, events, and initiatives
• Serve as primary writer within the organization, assisting other departments with communications materials
• Craft and produce a monthly internal employee newsletter and quarterly community newsletter
• Find and implement standard methodologies, industry data, new technologies and future trends for possible incorporation into Bulls media outreach efforts
• Lead team photography associates at games and special events. Promptly upload and archive images and work with various departments to select and distribute photos for event photo galleries and other uses
• Track and share media placements for events and announcements and maintain relationship with media monitoring service
• May lead, mentor, and/or coach seasonal associates on a project-to-project basis
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or other related field
• 4-5 years of professional experience in corporate communications or public relations; agency experience preferred
• Comprehensive understanding of all basic PR tools and positive relationships with and knowledge of Chicago media
• Experience pitching local print and TV with proven history of successful placements
• Excellent writing and proofreading skills, painstaking attention to details, and able to navigate and solve various issues to craft concise messaging and plans
• Enthusiasm and willingness to take initiative to develop new projects and media pitches
• Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work under pressure in a dynamic environment to effectively address the needs of the team
• Ability to collaborate with other internal departments and external partners
• Familiarity working with media monitoring tools and related metrics reporting
• Strong leadership and influence skills; outstanding interpersonal and team collaboration skills
• Creative thinker – solid experience in concept-to-execution of new ideas
• Multi-cultural media experience and bi-lingual skills preferred
• Ability to various hours, including nights, weekends and holidays
