CBS Sports Digital -- a portfolio of premium digital sports media properties including CBSSports.com, 247Sports, MaxPreps and SportsLine -- is consistently ranked a top-three sports property, reaching more than 70M sports fans monthly across desktop, mobile, and connected TV devices. Our team is a diverse and agile group that effectively collaborates with the business to shape our department.
Role Details:
We are looking for an experienced, versatile content lead to handle our NBA, WNBA, MLB and Combat Sports desks. The job will entail taking our already-successful teams in these areas to the next level by expanding on content offerings with a focus on the invested fan -- particularly gamblers and fantasy players. We are looking for someone who can develop writers and editors, create unique and interesting content, balance the demands of a multi-platform operation and drive large-scale traffic.
The ideal candidate will have management experience, extensive digital sports media experience, knowledge of the NBA, WNBA, MLB and combat sports (though not necessarily equal knowledge of each) and a plan of action based around what our teams are already producing in those areas. This role would be a great fit for someone who wants to work nights, as well, because these sports only take place at night.
Your Day-to-Day:
• Lead a staff of about 20 people and three separate content budgets
• Establish, implement and refine best practices for handling of news stories and other types of written content
• Work in parallel with specialized teams of across properties to encourage audiences to engage with other CBS Sports Digital content, particularly Bellator, Showtime, CBS Sports HQ and SportsLine
Key Projects:
• Grow the audience awareness for Bellator and Showtime Boxing as ViacomCBS partners
• Develop a path toward turning NBA and MLB readers into loyal CBS Sports users despite not having broadcast rights for those sports
• Build up the quality of content by pushing writers in each of these segments outside of their comfort zones and habits
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or a communications-related field (or equivalent training & experience)
• Minimum 8 years working in a journalism-related field
• Experience in management
• Experience working with Content Management Systems
• Fine-tuned copy-editing and writing skills
• Demonstrated ability for strategic editorial thinking
• You may also have:
• A strong portfolio of prior work in a similar field
• Programming experience
• Knowledge of Photoshop or similar programs
• Schedule flexibility and the ability to work some nights and weekends
