CBS Television Stations is seeking an innovative content creator and project leader to maximize the community storytelling happening locally at our stations, resulting in multiplatform special reports and content projects distributed nationally! The National Community & Diversity Correspondent will help lead and create content projects by collaborating with the “EPIC†at each of our stations; the Executive Producers Impacting Communities focus on areas where we can affect change in the communities we serve, building relationships and sourcing original stories at the neighborhood-level. Their goal is to identify critical local issues and neighborhood triumphs, and use storytelling to encourage compassion, mobilize communities, and spark action and conversations. This Correspondent will collaborate with our EPICs, finding opportunities to highlight and connect those community stories from across the country. This position is under the CBS Innovation Lab, which experiments with next-generation storytelling, and tests new products, workflows and production models for the future. The unit will collaborate with the group’s news and special projects teams, while also collaborating across CBS News and Stations platforms.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Ideate, research and create timely and topical community and social issue stories with high value to a broad audience. Produce segments and projects with dependable frequency and impact for the newscasts, specials, streams, websites and apps of CBS News and Stations.
• Lead collaboration of EPICs and others across station group
• Generate creative, innovative ideas about storytelling, content differentiation and audience engagement that enhances the mission of the CTS Innovation Lab.
• Urgently develop and execute angles to elevate breaking news and major story coverage.
• Efficiently increase newsgathering and investigative tactics to acquire information and story elements, such as developing relationships, encouraging sources, and strategically landing interviews, and may include navigating open records laws, collecting data and using computer-assisted reporting techniques.
• Understand, interpret and simplify complicated information, and then communicate the points and themes to team members in a clear, concise way.
• Communicate frequently and optimally with respect and candor, and maintain highly collaborative, productive working environments and relationships with management and news personnel. Represent company expertly at all times in interactions.
• Work closely with management, journalists and standards/legal counsel in creating accurate, complete, balanced, well-documented stories.
• Demonstrate full engagement with content marketing efforts on all platforms.
• Must be willing to work an unpredictable and adaptable schedule as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• 10 years’ experience as reporter, producer or similar role in a medium to large TV market, including work on content related to community, diversity and social issues
• Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills required.
• Videography and video editing skills preferred.
• Track record of innovative, strategic content that contributes to brand definition and audience growth.
• Journalism degree or similar is preferred.
