Full Time Paid Internship
Summer 2019 Data Engineering Intern (Masters/Graduate)
We are a passionate group providing data needs for all CBS Digital Media (CDM) properties. This includes CBS, CBSNews, CBS Sports and related Sports Properties. Our team is made up of varying engineering roles including Data, Data Product and Ingestion Engineering. Our team is responsible for driving the CDM data strategy and best practices for data collection, Pipelines, usage and infrastructure.
Candidates applying for the Summer 2019 Data Engineering Internship should possess a deep sense of curiosity, a passion for building smarter products based on data, and the ability to communicate data structures/tools throughout the CBS Digital Media organization.
Your Day-to-Day:
• Parter with the team to work with large volumes of traffic data and user behaviors to build products/tools to enhance raw data
• Troubleshoot business questions via hands-on exploration of data sets via Jupyter, SQL, dashboards, statistical analysis, and data visualizations
• Contribute ideas on how to make our data more effective
• Work with other members of the Engineering, Business Intelligence and Business Unit brands to implement changes
Logistics:
• Time commitment: full-time, 40 hours per week during our regular office hours (Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm) but times may vary per team
• This is a paid internship and can also be for university credit if it meets your university's guidelines
Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a Masters/Graduate degree in Analytics, Measurement/Data Operations, or similar field
• Experience with full stack application development
• Proficient in Python
• Experience with a Python web framework such as Django or Flask
• Experience building and deploying an application on a cloud platform (Google Cloud Platform preferred)
• Familiarity with data management systems, both relational and NoSQL (e.g., HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB)
Preferred:
• Familiarity with SQL skills for MySQL, Postgres and BigQuery to perform common types of analysis
• Experience with exploratory data analysis using tools like iPython Notebook, Pandas & matplotlib, etc
• Familiarity with Data Modeling
• Familiarity with Hadoop pipelines using Spark, Kafka.
• Can perform statistical analyses using tools such as R, Numpy/SciPy with Python
• Familiarity with Informatica and ETL concepts
Additional Requirements:
• Intern must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Student must be currently enrolled in a Graduate/Masters Level Program
• Must be at least 18 years old
