CBS Corporation is launching its Summer 2018 Veteran Internship Program for qualified college Veteran students who are enrolled full-time in an accredited university.
Through this initiative, we are committed to supporting the career development of our veterans by offering hands-on experience, career-building workshops, professional development courses and the opportunity to network with the best in our business. Although the following internships (listed below) are based in various departments, the program will be coordinated so participants take part in all of the aforementioned learning opportunities.
CBS Corporation is encouraging Veterans who are current full-time college students to apply. All of the following internships are paid and located in Chicago.
Each description provides more detail about the specific internship.
WBBM TV: Interns will gain valuable exposure and experience in areas of the newsroom. Interns will be side by side with department professionals, learning their craft and gaining valuable experience and knowledge.
INVESTIGATIVE
Interns in Investigative do legal research, in-depth pre-interviewing, document searches, general research and tape logging. They will also have the opportunity to accompany producers and reporters in the field.
NEWS
News Interns will help answer phones at the Assignment Desk, develop skills for checking out news stories, log video tape and help reporters and producers research stories. Interns may also have the opportunity to accompany producers and reporters in the field at news conferences and other assignments. This position will also assist with Planning duties for the News room. Interns will get experience in using social media for news gathering.
SALES, MARKETING & RESEARCH
Local Sales provides successful candidates the opportunity to learn from a team of talented, successful and creative Account Executives who call on the top advertising agencies and clients in Chicago who are willing to share their knowledge of the broadcast sales industry with the right candidates.
Our Sales Marketing area develops promotional and revenue generating campaigns for existing and new clients and coordinates prospective audience casting calls locally (when available) for such CBS Programs as ''Survivor,'' ''Amazing Race,'' ''Big Brother'' and ''The Price Is Right,'' as well as other client-specific promotions. They also produce commercials and promotional spots for clients as needed.
The Business Development team enhances our traditional sales efforts by calling on new businesses or New-To-TV businesses to share information about television advertising on CBS 2 Chicago. Further, they discuss our ability to produce commercials and media plans for those who have not advertised in broadcast media.
Our Digital Sales department works with advertisers, ad agencies and clients to develop web-based campaigns to compliment traditional broadcast schedules, as well as stand-alone digital campaigns.
Our Community Partnerships section of sales collaborates with current and prospective partners in outreach and educational campaigns that benefit the community and enhance sales.
Interns also respond to viewer calls regarding CBS 2 Chicago and CBS Network programs. They assist the sales team with day to day business and help maintain customer records.
Candidates will assist Account Executives, Sales Management and Sales Assistants with Research Projects, Presentation Preparation, Off-Site Events and Miscellaneous Office Projects. Interns in this area may also participate in assisting the Promotions and TV Executive departments with various projects.
This internship encompasses working with the Research Department. Interns will assist in pulling overnight ratings reports, program analysis reports, one-sheet program reports and preparing presentations.
SOCIAL MEDIA
The Digital Intern is someone who has an understanding of social media's role in news, as well as a passion for social media platforms including Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. The Digital Intern will perform digital searches to assist the News Team on stories; create content for CBS2's digital platforms; learn about key strategies for building engagement; and teach the CBS2 team about how to utilize and maximize social media to connect with communities.
SPECIALS
Interns in Special Projects have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of stories from hard news to features. They work closely with producers and reporters and can accompany them on shoots. Responsibilities include research, pre-interviews by phone and tape logging.
SPORTS
Interns in the Sports Department will have the opportunity to log video, research stories, and accompany reporters and producers in the field on occasion.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Must be a Veteran or honorably discharged from the US Armed Forces.
- Enrolled in an accredited college or university through December 2018.
- Be able to work 20 to 30 hours per week.
