Report: Will eventually report to Head of Clearance & Licensing (''Release'': C&A + BA)
Objectives:
Direct a team of clearance specialists responsible for developing and running a clearance policies and rights management process, managing the company's relationship and negotiations with content owners to secure safe licensing to our clients. Grow the Clearance & Acquisition business by optimizing our model, pricing optimization and working with sales, curation and marketing on growing the team's customer set.
What you'll work on:
The Director of Clearance & Acquisitions role is responsible for the following:
- Develop policies, set standards, and map an efficient clearance process for Catch and Release.
- Manage and design effective strategies to minimize legal and financial risk in the C&A process.
- Educate & train clearance specialists on C&R clearance and acquisitions processes and policies, using proprietary and 3rd party products and technologies.
- Coach & mentor specialists on clearance & copyright acquisition processes, intellectual property basics and protections, rights management, contributor relationships, and negotiations.
- Schedule and assign content/projects to managers, specialists and domain experts, tracking, analyzing and evaluating the work of the C&A team.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in Curation, Sales, and Business Affairs, providing solution-oriented work in order to fulfill client needs.
- Collaborate with Product to operationalize C&R's technology to the team and provide feedback.
- Maintain an ongoing, high level of familiarity with evolving content clearance requirements, internally and externally; raise clearance issues to Business Affairs and business executives in a concise and timely manner.
- Keep up to date with trends and products in the User Generated Content space and the content rights management industry.
Who we're looking for:
- Minimum 5 years experience in the content rights and clearance space for media or related assets.
- Understand ownership, usage rights, permissions, and industry standards for content & IP in advertising.
- Excited about disrupting the media industry with technology.
- Dedicated to operational efficiency, and the interplay between process, policy and technology.
- Comfortable in a fluid start-up and distributed working environment.
- Able to work independently and reliably in a fast-paced environment under tight time frames, with minimal supervision, simultaneously embracing C&R's culture of collaboration and transparency.
- Have strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities, demonstrating sound judgment.
- Ability to lead a team using the principles of servant-leadership.
- Eager/willing to learn and ask questions about things outside of own domain expertise.
- Bonus: IP contract experience in the advertising and/or entertainment space.
