The Communications Manager (CM) reports to, CAP UCLA Director of Marketing and Communications (DMC). The Communications Manager develops, manages and executes comprehensive communication strategy and campaigns for Center for the Art of Performance (CAP) at UCLA. The Communications Manager is also responsible for the strategic and creative positioning of CAP UCLA in local, national, and international media including securing coverage for all CAP UCLA events; writing press releases and media advisories; acting as the program spokesperson; and serving as CAP UCLA's representative at performances, fundraising, and campus events. Serve as a primary publicity liaison to media, artists, artist representatives and the general public. Provide expert communications counsel and report to CAP UCLA Senior Management and staff as needed. Work on evening/weekend events as needed.
Requirements:
• Strong working knowledge of journalistic, newspaper writing, and style codes.
• Working knowledge of methods of operation of print and broadcast media.
• Exceptional press contacts and working relationships with local, national and international print, broadcast and online media.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of principles and practices of public relations public information.
• Broad understanding of contemporary performing arts, trends in arts, and cultural programming nationally and internationally.
• Broad knowledge and understanding of Southern California community and performing arts market.
• Demonstrated skill in writing news releases, articles and other materials using correct grammar and punctuation that are also likely, accurate and suitable for publication in newspapers and magazines and for broadcast media..
• Excellent skills in journalistic writing and research, editing, and proofreading for news releases, articles and other materials including typed copy for accuracy, style and content with deadlines.
• In-depth knowledge of performing arts to include classical and popular music, jazz, dance, theater, and contemporary arts forms to be used in writing of press releases and feature articles.
• Extensive knowledge of and healthy relationships with Arts journalists in Southern California, New York City and beyond.
