Senior Accountant, Film & Television
Job description
Blumhouse is looking to expand its accounting and finance team. This position will gain valuable insight into the financial operations of an independent studio producing film and television projects across the media landscape. Your expertise in accounting, process improvements, critical thinking and solution driven attitude will contribute to this amazing team of professionals. You will be joining a high performing and fun spirited team with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
The Senior Accountant will report to the Director of Finance, Development and Manager of Finance, Production while supporting the accounting close process, including monthly and quarterly account reconciliations for our consolidated financial statements. Primary function will be analyzing data and recording our production company's balance sheet and income statement transactions related to development and production activities in SAP Concur (payables system) and Sage Intacct (accounting system).
Responsibilities are preparing journal entries, accounts receivables, account reconciliations, financial analysis and assisting with ad hoc projects where needed.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
- Review data recorded in the accounting subledgers and general ledger to ensureaccurate recording of various details to facilitate reporting to internal stakeholders.
- Analyze, record, and reconcile development capitalized costs and overhead expensemonthly to assist Finance Manager, Development in tracking actual spend by projectagainst the annual budget.
- Analyze, record, and reconcile production capitalized costs and overhead expensemonthly to assist the Finance Manager, Production in recording the corporate productionrelated activities and reimbursements of costs and management services by project.
- Identify and resolve data entry issues and improving the process to enhance timely month and quarter end review.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations for company development and production costs and related expense.
- Prepare invoices to the networks, partners, and production for reimbursement of development and production spend for film and tv monthly.
- Review and maintain project accounts receivables within the accounting system to communicate timely updates to team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree: Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 3 years' experience of relevant accounting experience in a small independent studio or corporate accounting team processing transactions, preparing journal entries and account reconciliations as part of a monthly or quarterly close.
- Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and standards (GAAP and ASC), regulations and company policies and procedures.
- Entertainment industry experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to critically think through process and approach task in a solution-oriented fashion. Mindful of opportunities to improve process with streamline schedules, process documentation and collaborate with team.
- Experience with excel spreadsheets and organizing data in a clear, organized, and summarized format. Be able to talk through process and detail of work with internal stakeholders not in the details.
- Confidence in raising issues to management when blocks exist and providing solutions to solve them.
- Ability to multitask, support and contribute to a monthly close reporting deadline in a fast-paced, production environment while maintaining accuracy and mindfulness.
- Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization.?
