Manager of Finance, Film & Television
Blumhouse is looking to expand its accounting and finance team. This position will gain valuable insight into the financial operations of an independent studio producing film and television projects across the media landscape. Your expertise in accounting, process improvements, critical thinking and solution driven attitude will contribute to this amazing team of professionals. Opportunity Description
The Manager of Finance will report directly to the Head of Finance and Accounting and assist with the accounting operations including accounts receivable, general ledger, revenue recognition and cost reporting for the consolidation of the Company financials. They will oversee all aspects of content accounting and finance for production including monthly and quarterly close, provide guidance to senior business partners and mentoring and developing within the team. In this role, you must be extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of complex multinational episodic and long-form content.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, detailed, process and customer service oriented individual focused on meeting the needs of a growing and dynamic production company by ensuring compliance and accurate reporting to cross-functional teams. This position demands a high-level understanding of process and procedures that drive a successful organization, as well as tactical competencies and solution driven response. Exceptional data analytical skills, deep knowledge of all aspects of the television and motion picture finance and accounting, highly developed communication skills with solid business judgment capable of driving an organization to the right results.
Key Role and Responsibilities:
•Responsible for the financial integrity of the Company's content commitments, assets(capitalization), liabilities (payments) and expenses (amortization) as it relates toproduction.
• Independent review and documentation of content agreements, which includes interpreting contractual terms and understanding the application of our accounting policies.
• Coordinate and maintain relationships with our Production, Business Affairs and Finance executives to gather necessary information to track green-lit projects and provide status updates upon request.
• Managing billing and collections for contractual obligations of licensing and production commitments. Ensure proper revenue recognition.
• Attend Production update meeting to gather status on projects in various stages of production to maintain real-time status of television and film projects.
• Organize and lead Production Finance meeting with Production, Production Finance and Business Affairs for presentation to Finance and Senior Executives.
• Perform oversight analysis for production by reviewing project cost reports, trial balance and bank reconciliations.
• Manage funding needs of the productions and initiate requests within our system and monitoring process flow of timely payments. Manage monthly billbacks to productions.
• Review recording of productions costs, production assets and liabilities, in the subledger to ensure accurate project capitalized balances, amortization of expense and participant and residual obligations by monthly reconciliation.
• Provide guidance and support for team that proactively drives continuous improvement and works with a collaborative mentality.
• Ensure compliance with corporate policy and procedures as well as appropriate GAAP application and internal controls.
Required Educational and Experience Requirements
• Five to eight years' experience at a start-up, major studio, streaming service or similar company in the film, television, entertainment, or media industries.
• BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field preferred.
• Experience in accounting or finance covering multiple account areas with complex accounting treatment. Deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and key principles of application to entertainment and media businesses.
• Strong work ethic and hands on collaborative working style with an affinity to problem-solve.
• Detail and results oriented with excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines.
• Deep working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and key principles of application for a wide array of finance and accounting areas. Knowledge of entertainment technical terms related to development and production preferred.
• Outstanding written, critical thinking, and oral communication skills; ability to communicate complex or sensitive information tactfully.
• Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office products, ERP systems, organizing data, and application of critical analysis using reporting tools available.
