Lighting Supervisor (Blue Sky Studios)
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Lighting Supervisor is responsible for achieving the best possible look for the show they work on. They lead the department in the execution of amazing imagery and work to make sure the director's vision is achieved. They report to the CG Supervisor on a film to ensure their work aligns with the director's vision, and to the Head of Lighting to ensure their work is aligned with the future direction of the department and the studio.
Responsibilities:
• Direct lighting leads during visual development, master and shot lighting
• Run lighting rounds and reviews
• Present lighting work to the directors
• Collaborate with directors, art directors and CG Supervisor in developing the final look
• Work with production management to schedule out the lighting work
• Work with production management on casting requirements
• Determine show-specific technology requirements
• Oversee and maintain lighting quality and consistency
• Approve imagery to be shown to the directors
• Delegate work to the lighting leads for efficiency
• Represent the lighting department in cross-departmental show meetings
• Keep lighting appraised of the status of the show
• Assist in employee review process and in any performance management issues
• Assist in hiring of new talent into the department, specifically for short-term hires for the show
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in leading and collaborating with teams in a production environment
• Strong knowledge of lighting and rendering CGI imagery
• Strong knowledge of image compositing
• Excellent understanding of lighting workflow and processes, both commercial and proprietary, from both an artistic and technical perspective
• Strong artistic eye for creating imagery that achieves the director's vision
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge and opinions on where the future of CGI image creation might be headed
• Proven communication skills and the ability to give and take direction
• Proven experience in successfully prioritizing tasks in a frenetic environment
• Experience in mentoring and craft elevation for those artists working on a production with them
