Student U. Coordinator (LIVE EVENTS)
The Big Ten Network (BTN) in Chicago is searching for a Student U. Coordinator. This position will coordinate and oversee the day-to-day production of all BTN Student U. productions. Duties include, serving as the point of contact for the Big Ten University Video Service Coordinators and assisting in the creation of Student U. production policies, procedures and training manuals as it relates to our fly packs and on air Student U. product. The incumbent will also be tasked with creating a pool of potential crew members by tracking students throughout their schooling and after graduation to determine success rate of BTN's program as well as assisting with engineering in providing solutions to technical questions regarding fly pack equipment. This person works in a dynamic professional office environment as well as frequent work in a restricted technical setting operating on strict real time deadlines. The ideal candidate should have some production experience working live sporting events. Some travel required.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with the strategic operation and communication workflows, procedures, and facility standards for Student U. programming
• Develop and design standard operational guidelines for Student U. Establish troubleshooting guidelines for the identification and resolution of potential problems prior to air and for the review of past problems to ensure they are not repeated. Represent network on weekly conference calls with University contacts to ensure that all information is being delivered in a timely manner and within the guidelines that have been established. Disseminate information to the Big Ten Network staff regarding Student U. productions.
• Provide daily feedback to all student technicians/broadcasters. Provide production grades, work to improve those grades and work to achieve a potential pool of BTN remote crew members.
• Work with BTN engineering department to assist students with technical questions as it relates to the production fly packs
• Daily communication with all video service directors
• Pinpoint schools that are struggling with their productions - organize on-site training seminars with the students that focus on technical/production training. Organize fall training each year with new Student U personnel.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast or related field preferred
• Previous experience working with fly packs and with student television productions preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in negotiation, and presentation, as well as, solid interpersonal skills are required
• Ability to communicate and understand general technical information on TV facilities and equipment
• Ability to manage multiple high profile projects and provide strong leadership and solid decision-making skills under tight deadlines and demonstrate sound analytical thinking
• Sound organizational skills and attention to detail are required
• Demonstrate ability in developing and maintaining effective business relationships is necessary
• Must be able to multi-task and work effectively under changing priorities and daily time constraints
• Strong interdepartmental communication is a must
