OVERVIEW
The Company Stage Manager (CSM) heads up the Stage Management Department and is responsible for the welfare of the dance company and provides wider support across all departments for the production of Beyond Babel in San Diego. The role involves working closely with the creative team, general manager, lead producers, and the production department. The CSM plays a key role within the management team in achieving targets and developing and maintaining standards within the organization.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Oversee the delivery of stage management services for the production including the daily setting up and smooth running of rehearsals and performances.
•Take responsibility for the management of the theatre's rehearsal spaces and ensure that they are well prepared and safe environments.
•Source and book additional rehearsal space if required.
•Ensure production requirements are met in a timely fashion and all departments are kept informed of what is required.
•Liaise with the Marketing Department to organize publicity and press calls.
•Liaise with Wardrobe Department to organize wardrobe calls and fittings.
•Write and distribute the technical schedule for the production week.
•Run the technical and dress rehearsals and ensure that the schedules are kept on track.
•Together with the General Manager, manage a well-organized, clean efficient and safe working environment in those areas used by stage management and company members.
•Maintain a regular dialogue with the creators and lead producers and keep them in touch with matters concerning the current shows in performance and rehearsal.
•Ensure the implementation of employment terms for all dancers and stage management staff in accordance with their relevant employment agreements.
•Manage petty cash, credit card transactions, purchase orders, and all other financial transactions within the Stage Management Department.
•Take responsibility for managing agreed budgets under your control for productions and maintenance.
•Monitor and control overtime as required and take responsibility for the processing of timesheets for the dance company and stage management.
•Ensure all work undertaken by the Stage Management Department complies with Beyond Babel's Health & Safety policy and practices and with current Health and Safety Legislation.
•Implement staff training if and when required.
•Take responsibility for the accountability of Company members and staff under CSM line management during fire evacuations
•To play an active role in the life of the production Beyond Babel and to work across departments to develop a positive and engaged organizational culture.
•To undertake any other duties as reasonably required.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION
•Associates or BA in Theatre Management, Theatre Arts, or equivalent professional experience.
•Professional supervisory stage management experience required
•Experience supervising execution of a payroll budget preferred.
•Strong communication, negotiations, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
•Positive attitude, team player.
