Aviron Pictures is a Los Angeles-based company specializing in the marketing and distribution of theatrical film releases. The company is managed by a team of Hollywood veterans and collaborates with experienced filmmakers to shepherd their motion pictures to the screen. Upcoming films on Aviron's slate include Serenity, a suspense thriller with Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway; A Private War, a portrait of legendary war correspondent Marie Colvin starring Rosamund Pike; and Three Seconds, an action thriller starring Joel Kinnaman, Rosamund Pike, Clive Owen, Common and Ana de Armas. Previously, Aviron spearheaded the theatrical marketing of 47 Meters Down, before distributing Kidnap, a suspense-thriller starring Halle Berry, and the horror film The Strangers: Prey at Night.
Aviron seeks an experienced Paralegal/Assistant for a role in the business and legal affairs group. This person will assist and support the EVP of Business Affairs on a wide array of matters in connection with the acquisition and distribution of films. This person will be primarily responsible for preparing (i.e., word processing) acquisition and distribution-related agreements, performing contracts administration, creating and managing both digital and paper document files, performing UCC lien searches, ordering copyright and title reports, preparing and recording UCC financing statements in various jurisdictions in the United States, preparing and recording assignments, licenses and copyright mortgages with the Unites States Copyright Office, monitoring the documentary aspect of the delivery of films acquired by the company, co-ordinating with other departments relating to the release of such films, and assisting in the establishment of procedures that maximize the efficiency of the business & legal affairs group.
The candidate must have excellent word processing and computer skills and must be organized and detail-oriented. Additionally, this person should be comfortable advising and collaborating with internal departments and external producers, production counsel, agents and production partners and making decisions that have both legal and business impact.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
• At least 1-2 years of relevant experience, preferably at a film studio or independent film company, a network, or other media company and/or substantive legal experience as legal assistant or paralegal at a law firm.
• Familiarity with and ability to read and interpret entertainment-related contracts, including acquisitions agreements, co-production agreements, security agreements, copyright and title reports, credit, likeness and related provisions in talent agreements, and financing agreements.
• High level of Microsoft Word, Excel, Dataroom.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as the job may require frequent communications across multiple departments.
• Must be extremely well-organized and attentive to detail.
• Proactive, positive attitude.
• Team-oriented.
• Willingness and ability to learn new skills quickly.
