JOB SUMMARY
The Atlanta Hawks Brand Communication team is responsible for PR and Media Relations for all ''off-the-court'' activities of the team including Corporate Social Responsibility, Marketing Partnerships, Internal and Executive communications, as well as media support for the more than 150 shows State Farm Arena hosts annually. The Manager of Brand Comms will serve as a manager of both people and projects, a Subject Matter Expert for assigned departments – ''clients''- to help maximize opportunities to amplify the work of the organization. A pro-active leader with a keen ability see the opportunities to promote the Hawks brand in fun and engaging ways.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serves as day-to-day lead in creating and executing integrated plans that advance the marketing and communication priorities
• Works as a consensus builder to cultivate collaborative working relationships, understand department priorities, and manage expectations.
• Exhibits in-depth knowledge of the organization, its partners and media landscape
• Fosters relationships with local, regional and national media contacts and influencers
• Elevates problems to superiors and solicits counsel when needed and appropriately
• Oversees quality and operational performance, ensuring flawless execution and deadline adherence
• Leads the department's use of Linkedin and demonstrates understanding of social media and the digital landscape and how to incorporate into B2B programs to maximize results.
• Demonstrates proficiency in writing skills to craft various types of correspondence – press releases, talking points etc.- communications plans, presentations, award submissions and more.
• Manages any budgets responsibilities
• Manages staff, working to develop their talent, develop growth plans, and oversee their work to ensure quality and consistence
• Contributes to a positive and engaging team and corporate culture
• Leverages her/his network of media contacts and participates in relevant professional organizations and networking activities to help advance the business goals of the Hawks organization.
• Works with internal departments introducing them to relevant media opportunities to advance their business goals
• Ensures performance expectations, career development plans and goals are set and reviewed during the formal performance review process for all direct reports
QUALIFICATIONS
A combination of education and experience that would be equivalent to qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field.
• At least 5 – 7 years of public relations and media relations experience with both B2C and B2B audiences; a specific focus any of the following: brand, lifestyle, community, sports, corporate communications including project and/or account management is a plus
• Two years of employee supervisory experience.
• A strategic mindset that utilizes creative problem-solving to achieve results
• Team player; organized, can prioritize in a fluid environment
• Self-starter and decisive yet knows when to approach senior staff when needed
• Experience consensus building among senior level staff
• Demonstrate advanced understanding of emerging channels like social media, video, and content partnerships in relation to media mix
• Experience working in inter-departmental teams including multiple marketing partners
• Successful track record of helping to build and present concepts/programs for clients (internal or external) and effectively executing programs
• Ability to spot digital trends and insights and share with teams in order to capitalize on exposure for the brand.
• Experience with media monitoring tools including Cision and Trendkite are a plus.
