The Jr. Copywriter executes creative and clear copywriting and concepting for a range of weekly and daily assignments. The role requires the ability to write taglines, social media concepts, social media post copy & presentation copy as requested to support the businesses, brands and campaigns of our clients and their projects. It is very important to the role that the writer is fluent in social vernacular, especially pertaining to meme speak. The position requires a writer to think creatively, work productively with teams, have a knack for ideas, an affinity for research, ability to execute copy revisions and an understanding of brand strategy and vision. The position must communicate effectively with project managers, producers and creative directors. This position reports directly to the Senior Copywriter.
Job Duties
This position currently is focused on writing social copy and creative copy exclusively for one client, however as schedule permits, the position may evolve into working on other entertainment or lifestyle clients, in a range of areas from social, to key art to branding.
Stay up to date on current social trends and be able to ideate and apply those trends to the client/client's properties.
Write strategic and persuasive headlines, taglines, social media copy to carry out the creative concept and fulfill the objectives of the strategy as well as client needs and expectations.
Work closely with project manager, producer and creative director, collaborate with other colleagues in brainstorming and developing creative concepts to achieve client objectives.
Understand creative direction and write in a variety of styles and voices according to clients' brand and strategy, while maintaining consistently high standards.
Meet tight deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Proofread creative materials before presentation to clients.
Develop awareness of current projects and company's overall work.
Prepare final copy documents for client.
As schedule permits:
Research new projects, brand attributes, brand voice and competitive marketplace as well as read scripts and write synopses.
Be responsible for gathering necessary information including brief, scripts, ideas, concepts, comps, sketches and other materials necessary to complete assignments.
Assist in writing proposals, presentations, corporate media kits, etc. as requested
Qualification Requirements
To perform this job successfully, the candidate must achieve consistent professionalism and excellence. The environment is creative, fast-paced and deadline oriented. The ability to prioritize with an attention to detail is essential. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skills necessary:
- Write effective social copy that strikes appropriate tone and attitude.
- Strong knowledge of and interest in the entertainment industry, specifically television and film.
- Skill to tell a story and evoke emotion, instinct for editing, trust in the creative process and perseverance for revisions.
- Proven aptitude for quick creative thinking with attention to detail
- Strong communication and critical thinking skills, as well as ability to think visually and understand graphic/visual vocabulary
- Ability to plan, prioritize, take initiative, work in teams and work independently.
- Flexibility to shift between projects and adapt to deadline changes.
- Dedication to grow into a more independent, collaborative role within the copy department.
Education and Training
A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, plus one to two years related experience or training as a writer; or an equivalent combination of education and writing experience. Intermediate to advanced understanding of Google office platform as well as Microsoft Word.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Senior Copywriter, but in day-to-day projects the position maintains close communication to project manager and/or producer and/or creative director. The Junior Copywriter meets and communicates with the Senior Copywriter daily to coordinate schedule.
Any and all vacation and/or sick day requests or other out-of-the-office needs shall be first approved and directly sent to the Senior Copywriter for approval.
